Safe travels! We are concerned about another storm coming on Saturday. Right now they are saying evening so hopefully we will be long gone before it hits.

we are leaving next Wednesday anytime between 9 and noon. (work, work, work) Monday they had our area getting snow on Wednesday. today they have it sunny up and down the east coast. so hopefully the forecast sticks! :thumbsup2

Have you made the drive in the winter before??

Yes, about three years ago we left WI a day early to beat the snow, leaving mid January. Our biggest concern was the un refrigerated food freezing until we reached warmer weather. Drove home late January in cold, very cold weather. Of course, had to unwinterize down in Florida, and then redo before leaving. We found it too cold to sleep in the 5ver going or coming for a rest, so sprang for a hotel. Finding a hotel with truck/bus parking is a challenge. Safe travels. We are now leaving on Dec 30. So excited to leave the 5 degree temps this week.

We made it!

After the snow storm ended, the roads were cleared. And we departed Tuesday night at 9:45 p.m. Our concern was the so called "black ice." However, road crews did a superb job on every road and highway we were on. We took it slow, just in case.

DE: 11:25 p.m.
MD: 11:43 p.m.
VA: 1:41 a.m.
NC: 4:44 a.m.
SC: 9:06 a.m.
GA: 1:18 p.m.

We took an hour+ nap in NC around sunrise and then took another longer one in SC at 10 a.m. We entered FL at 3:11 p.m. and got on I-4 at 5:05 p.m. Traffic was slow as we got close to Orlando but eased up about eight miles before exit 68. We arrived at the Holiday Inn DTD for our pre-WDW stay. This morning we left the Holiday Inn and arived at the Beach Club.

A Gulf gas station near the GA border: $3.06
Disney Hess: $3.36

All the best. :thumbsup2

Yeah, we are too! Our next drive: tonight [from the Beach Club to the Contemporary for dinner at the California Grill!]. :drive: Awaiting Sharadoc's arrival.... All the best. :thumbsup2
Think of me shoveling and snow blowing eight inches of snow tomorrow. Wednesday can't come fast enough!!! Smiley is on Main Street tonight. Lol

I need advice!! We're leaving next Friday from shoreline CT. I like the inland route better than 95 but know we need check the weather to decide.

We're leaving around 4 pm so we need to take the Tappan Zee bridge instead of going through NY city. Then I'm not sure what we should do. Should we head back to 95 and head down or go inland.

since we're leaving at 4 and will stop for dinner around 7 or 8... if we take 95 we'll be going thru DC around 11 so no traffic?

Thanks!!

ill give you my two cents....... we learned our lesson a long time ago. we leave this Wednesday and im going 78/81/66/17/95. the weather report can say sunny and im staying out of the mountains. :rotfl2:
cant help you with the city traffic...... learned my lesson a long time ago with that also. :rotfl2:
if you want to meet up for a quick hello and hand shake, pm me and we can exchange cell numbers. we have adrs for this trip but we are going down to hit a few rides, see the lights, candle light pro. and just hang out maybe doing some resort hopping. a lot of the time just finding a bench and watching the kid the work. :lmao:

So... we could go inland and follow your route. Do you know the exit #s?
Lol. That's my coastal route. Lol. We live just east of the Delaware river from New Jersey on i78. I78 runs into i81. I66 you pick up in Virginia which don't know the exit number but it's out in the middle of nothing so you can't miss it. When on i66 you will see signs ( i95 south via 17). Just exit onto 17 and follow the i95 south signs. You will pick up i95 just north of Richmond. Around mile marker 133 or so. Rt17 is well marked. Sorry I've driven so many times I don't pay attention to much to exit numbers the exchanges are in the middle of know where so they are very easy to find. We use this route in the winter and 78/81/77/26/95 the rest of the year. We had a bad experience one year with snow, fog so we stay out of the mountains in the winter.

On the road at 5:22 to beat the weather hopefully! Maryland border at 6:30. Smooth sailing, no traffic, waiting for the sunrise.

will check in periodically. Got a new 4G WiFi hotspot. Love it!

thank you!!!!! have a great holiday and can you do me a favor, shovel the driveway for me while im gone!! lol

thank you!! :thumbsup2

Congratulations to you & your daughter.

Seriously, who does take care of your snow while you are gone?

im lucky, the kid next door goes to penn state and needs the money. he mows my grass when we are gone and will take care of the snow. I have a "winter watchman" its a little box you plug in to a socket, you plug a lamp into the little box, if the temp falls below 65 in the house, the light goes on. I use a little window candle with a blue light and put it in the window facing his house.he also sticks his head in every few days just to make sure, I shut the water off and drain the water lines. I also winterize the toilets just in case.

In NC near Fayetteville. Couple drizzles but no "real" rain all day. Traffic great the whole way.

Thought about pushing thru to WDW but no cabins available for tonight. So we'll take our time and get a good night's sleep on the road.
