WELCOME HOME BC!!! HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD TIME. :thumbsup2

Thanks! But we didn't have "a good time." We had a memorable great time. ;)

Now then...after 26 round-trip drives, I have decided to stick with a new departure time: the late evening. As one who does not like driving in the dark (opposing headlights are my number one aggravation), we usually departed very, very early in the morning (we also avoided the traffic). Being unable to sleep for a few hours late at night prior to our drive, I got very tired around sunrise. Of course, it was time for a rest-stop nap. However, by leaving at around 9:30 p.m., I will still get tired around sunrise but we get many more miles under our tires by that time. The traffic starts dwindling with every late-night hour, too.

So, weather conditions notwithstanding, our next drive will begin later in the evening.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Next scheduled drive: October.

However, a Disneyland flight is scheduled first.

Also, the possibility of a short three-day WDW stay in August.

As for that "secret" EPCOT parking spot...it must remain a secret since it involves a CM.

All the best. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 dont want to get anyone in trouble.
i dont think i would do a drive for a three day wdw.

I'm intrigued by the 78/81/77/26/95/4 route. We're near the Downingtown exchange of the PA Tpk. We've driven down plenty of times & generally take I95 down, getting to 95 via 202 S through Delaware, or sometimes via 30 W to 10 to 1 S through MD. Looking at our Trip Tik, it seems that there's a good bit of construction throughout Balt, DC, & VA. I'm wondering if it may be better, either with or without the construction, to try the 78/81/77/26/95/4 route. Thoughts from the veterans out there?

Indeed. It might involve another form of transportation.

Of course, if it happens I will initiate a self imposed ban on this thread for the same amount of days. ;)

It will be another WDW journey, but it won't cut into the dvczerfs all-time number of drives record.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Forgot to mention. Looking at leaving at approx 6:00 Fri evening & driving for about 5-6 hours, staying over somewhere, and back on the road by 7 am Sat.

The All-Time Records have been updated. See the first post on Page 1.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Leaving in 8 hours.:banana::banana: We're taking the 78/81/77/26/95/4 route. I'll let everyone know the times.

pending on how fast you drive and how much traffic you hit. 5-6 hours for me gets me to harrisonburg va. we stay at the hampton inn in harrisonburg.

This August will be our third time driving (always in August) from NYC. We usually take 95 all the way down and stop outside of Florence, SC on the first night. We usually stay at the Suburban Extended because they have a kitchenette area, both our boys have food allergies. My brother is following us this time and he usually stays at a Motel 6 because he is bringing his dog.

The question is: What hotel/motel do you usually stay at on the trip down? And why?

We may also drive straight through starting early Friday morning. So I was wondering, all things equal, if the route would make more sense than my usual route. Also, someone else suggested that I could also take 422/322/83/581/15/270/95. If anyone had any input on that as a possibility as well, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

:thumbsup2Congratulations on you Grandson making Eagle. Our DS is an Eagle Scout, too. :thumbsup2

Thanks - his brother is working on his Eagle and hopes to complete it next year. But I wish they would hurry up and select the date for this year's ceremony so we can finish our trip plans. DH is already plotting dates and I keep telling him it is all tenative considering that the only date that we don't know yet is the Eagle ceremony - we have the dates for the HS graduation in TX and our granddaughters dance recital in FL. Once we have the Eagle date, we can finalize our plans and book our Disney resort.

Hi. I just had to edit my answer - I thought you were in Doylestown :rotfl:

We backtrack to the Blue Route - we think that's quicker and less straing on the braking leg. I think if I was in Downingtown I still might consider it. That 202 South through S PA and into Delaware is really tedious!

DVCZerfs swears by his route. I keep thinking we're going to try it by going out throuth Lancaster to Harrisburg, but it always adds at least 90 minutes to the trip, so I don't know if it's worth it. Sitting an hour in traffic will still take less time.

Also, a lot of the construction lane closures happen overnight so when you think it's going to be easy, it turns out to be a nightmare!

We plan to leave around 10 am, hit DC around 1 pm. We feel pretty comfortable with that timing. Let me know if we can help with any local issues or questions!

Where does 422 hit 322? They seem like they are in a totally different direction from where we are. Which direction are you coming from? Where you plan to hit 95? If it's anywhere before Washington, you probably wouldn't be accomplishing much by doing back roads.

If you could provide more detail it would be great.

Thanks

THe last I drove 422 onto 322 was leaving Pottstown, traveling into Hershey area. At the 322 you can get 83 through Harriburg.
But that loop seems to be right there at Hershey/Harrisburg. Instead of the I 81 to I 83.
Not sure. but would 78 to 81 and 83 be faster? 422 coming out of reading area seemed soooo long the time we traveled the loop, but it was 20 years ago or more.

traveling from St Louis in September with DD4 DS9 and DH. first roadtrip with the kiddos...ANY advise on where to stop. Going to stop and stay over on the trip down, and then maybe drive straight through on the way home?

i live 5 min. north of i78. for me, its no big deal. if your south of i78. you have to see if it is worth driving north to drive back south. when we go straight through, ill leave home, (nazareth) at 3am. i pull in at okw at 7pm/7:30pm. for me to take rt22/ northeast extension to the turnpike and fight my way through philly, balt, washington, richmond isnt worth it.
