Have a great trip! :rotfl2:On the bugs

thanks!! we are doing a two day driving down trip. we are leaving friday afternoon. people think im nuts but i take glass cleaner and clean the wind shield a few times on each leg of the trip.
i put a bug deflector on the van a few years ago and all that does is give me something more to clean the bugs off.:lmao:
its all part of the trip, i love it!!

For the experienced veterans out there, if I leave the Philly area at 3:00am on a Friday & head down 95, generally speaking when can I realistically expect to be past the DC area? I’m wondering how much the Friday am rush will affect me? Also, any current 95 construction issues I should be aware of?

Lurking more than posting...leaving in 2 weeks :thumbsup2 Doing WDW from offsite as we will be on the other side of the world :confused3 But we are doing the night drive from NJ to Orlando ;)

Hi EpcotMatt2. I am about 1.5 hours from the Delaware Memorial Bridge, and I usually leave home around 2:30 am. I am passing DC at around 5:30 am, roughly three hours after leaving home. We have never had traffic between home and Virginia going at this time on either weekdays or weekends, save an occassional lane closure due to contruction, but even they were nothing to speak of.

Can't help you with the current 95 construction situation.

Wondering if anyone has driven from Minnesota (Twin Cities)? I did a search and found someone who was considering it from northern MN.

Google maps say it is a 26 hour drive, just curious if that is accurate or not. We've driven from MN to NM several times and from MN to TX, as well.

Has anyone done a drive like that straight through? Is it worth it?

We left at 4:30 one morning, hit DC by 6:30. You should get there by 5-5:30 which should be good. Just don't take 495 west, there's tons of construction going on and lane closures. Either take 495 east or stay on 95. If you hit the start of rush hour, it will be going from Virginia into DC so it shouldn't slow you down.

We where going to drive there this winter due to high ticket prices out of MSP. After some research we decided to drive to Madison (from SE MN) and fly out of there through Frontier. You can get round trip (non stop) for around $240 per person.

For the person in MN 26 hours is about right if you don't hit any traffic or problems. I have made the trip from Northern IL near the WI border every year and it is about 21 hours from here and Minneapolis is about 5 hours from us. HTH.

I would think 26hrs would leave you to exhausted to do anything the first day. My drive is 16+hrs and I've alway done it in 2 days. I time it so I arrive a WDW around 12-1pm.

Note: Watch your timing when going through Atlanta,GA. Avoid rushhour if possible!

Only 121 days until I head out for my first Disney World road trip! One question that I've been meaning to ask. I'm coming from Wisconsin, taking 57-24-75. Where will I end up driving through mountains, and just how "mountain-y" is it? I'm not worried at all, just trying to manage my expectations. Thanks!

we leave friday at 2pm :cool1:

:drive:pixiedust::jumping1::wave::mickeybar

We are two ships passing in the night, we are driving June 8th when dgs gets out of school in the morning. Wish it were earlier, but at Kindergarten he does not want to miss the last day, the whole 90 minutes.

Weather looks like 87* to 89* with scattered thunderstorms. I keep watching the temps praying they are no more then 86* lower then normal for June.
Have fun,
di

On the route you are taking - they start around Mounteagle and end around Chattanooga. We don't think the mountains are that bad although for trucks with a 4 to 6% grade, they can be hazardous. We think that driving through Nashville with 4 lane switches as interstates merge and demerge in a short span is much worse.

Hi,
We are leaving at 2PM from the Wilkes Barre PA area. Does anyone know of a nice hotel to stay at on the way down? :confused3 The half way point would be good. I was thinking about the Columbia area. Is that a good spot? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thank you! I just checked that stretch on Google maps, and it is only about 45 miles between the two cities. That's not bad at all. I was expecting more. I'll just have to make sure my wife is awake during that part of the drive, both so she can enjoy driving through the mountains and also for a 2nd pair of eyes to keep us safe.
