Thanks for the input.
We just purchased a new car with heated seats and lumbar support.
That probably would help out in the long drive.
Never even thought of it.

Thanks

Good! That's what's good about hanging out here - we all have different ideas and all together, we actually can help LOL.

Also, I find squats help a whole lot to stretch out my lower back while traveling. After walking around at the rest area, I drop to a catcher's position for a couple of 20 sec. stints (I can't make it to 30 sec!) I may look like a player in search of a game, but heck, the next couple hours are way more comfortable!

Question - will $5 a gallon gas make you stay home? For us, that will equate to $500 to $600 round trip cost in gas. Still cheaper than flying. Definitely will drive straight through that way. But it will feel a LOT more painful.

I think that will definitely take away that 2nd trip in the same year. One trip a year at $5 a gallon for us.

I'm driving down Friday it is a little over 2000 miles rt, I calculated the gas cost yesterday on triple AAA's gas calculator, 532.00 will be my total gas cost. It is still less than flying for the 5 of us. I just saw that the Daytona 500 is this weekend, We are stopping in Ga for the first night then Saturday morning going to Disney world, the race is Sunday, anyone have any input ? Will we be sitting in traffic on 95 on Saturday? Any alternate routes that gets you off 95 and cuts over to Disney? Thanks for any input!!:)

Not sure what we're going to do at this point. Would cost us the same amount to drive as it will to take the Autotrain at this point :confused3 My kids really want to take the train but we have never taken it before and I do like driving.;) We may not even go at all at this point since we just shelled out 2k for dh's explorer to pass inspection. Perhaps we will drive down and take the AT home just for the experience.

from $4.00 to $5.00 per gallon = about $85.00 more round trip for us. nope, not staying home. i think for us, as long as gas is available, unlike the early 70s, we will still go god willing. :thumbsup2

i dont have any experience with daytona and i95 on race weekend but i do live 30 min. from pocono raceway. i would stay away from that area if it was me. there are other routes, i just dont have my atlas at hand. if nobody chimes in soon, i will look it up for. :thumbsup2

We're with you!

Now then...sustained high gasoline prices will have a huge effect on WDW: all the goods that arrive there are shipped via truck, and those added fuel costs have to be passed along in the form of higher prices. And then there's the increased fuel prices for ferries, cruisers, launches and pwcs on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. Plastic products? All petroleum by products. The list goes on. :teacher:

Hang in there, gang.

All the best. :thumbsup2

We're planning our first drive in September from Wisconsin. Honestly, even with gas prices where they are now, it is basically the same cost or even a little cheaper to fly as it is to drive since it is just the two of us, and we'll be splitting the drive up to two days. So even if gas does go up to $5/gallon, we'll still drive. The way I look at it, how much is convenience worth to me? When you fly, you have to deal with airport security, worrying about keeping luggage under 50 lbs, losing 1/2 day due to transportation to your home airport and from the Orlando airport, wondering how you are going to get souvenirs home while still keeping said luggage under 50 lbs, having to make extra arrangements for groceries. Plus we are taking a side trip to Anna Maria Island at the end of our trip, so we'd have the expense and hassle of a rental car for that trip. So I guess, for us (DINK's who only go to Disney World every 2-3 years) the rising cost of gas stings a little but wouldn't deter us from driving. And of course, this is all without mentioning that as the cost of gas goes up, so does the cost of flying. Those planes don't run on Pixi Dust! So that does shrink the cost gap between flying and driving.

ok, i talked to a friend of mine who has gone this way. i have never tried it. he said it beats sitting in traffic. i95 into florida. take i295 around jacksonville and pick up rt17 south. its not an interstate but its a nice ride he said. you will hit i4 between deltona and sanford.
looking at the map, it dont look bad. your going through towns but atleast your moving not sitting.
i would say if your getting into the daytona area late at night, you should be ok. good luck. :thumbsup2

February 23. Hmm. For us, March 23 could be the time to depart for another 2,000+ mile round-trip drive.

All the best. :thumbsup2

We are going down in may but we will also be heading down in september. we will be on the road sept. 11th heading down and sept. 23rd heading home. :thumbsup2

How far will you drive before you pull in for a rest?

We always go about three hours before we make our first stop at one of the MD rest stops; however, this time we will also top of the tank because we don't want to make a stop around 4 a.m. in VA for gas. Again, this is based upon us leaving in good weather at 11 p.m.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Two weeks from today we'll be waking up in Orlando!!!

Leaving on Feb. 24th from southern NH. Decided to do a rental car to avoid wear and tear on our own vehicles. My husband just update/upgraded our rental reservation and can't believe the deal we got.... $155, unlimited mileage for 10 days!! Hoping this will off-set the rising price of gas! Only downfall is that it is a "wildcard" reservation, so we won't know what we're getting until we pick it up the night of the 23rd. We will plan for small, but may end up with lots of room to spare.

Oh, please remember to come back here and post what you got as your vehicle! Kinda like playing the lottery!!! :goodvibes

Picked up the rental car last night..... we lucked out! Got a Ford Edge (SUV) so we have plenty of room.
Car is all packed. Now we just wait... kids are at school, me & husband at work. Planning to leave today by 3:15pm (just as a snowstorm moves into our area!).
Spending the night in Deleware and then on to Orlando tomorrow! Soooo excited!
