Thanks for the encouraging words, but I am not catching up! Our next WDW drive is only #26. Although we've completed 25 drives since 2002, we can only close the gap slightly.

Your 51 2,000+ mile round-trip drives is a record that may never be broken as long as you continue to drive. [Think along the lines of Cy Young's total MLB pitching victories! Untouchable!] :worship:

Getting ready for our drive down next week. Finally getting to do laundry as we remodeled the laundry room these past three weeks - ended up having to wear my summer clothes around the house as I ran out of clean jeans and long sleeved shirts so now I have wash those clothes that I had set aside for Disney.
DH was going to put in cabinets and a countertop - after we unloaded the room, I thought it would be a good idea to paint it since everything was taken out. Got some great chrome shelving to go with the cabinets. It now really looks good - I don't mind washing clothes anymore so packing for Disney will not be a problem. But I only have 4 days to get everything washed, ironed and packed as well as putting everything back in the laundry room.
Just figured it out - this will be our 19th drive to Disney since 2006 with 4 trips every year since 2009 - we go down in spring for F&G: our anniversary in June; my birthday, F&W and MNSSHP in Oct; and Christmas & MVMCP in Nov/Dec.

Wow, sounds like you have been busy. Do you need me to use your reservation for you. Lol. If I dont get a chance to talk to you before you go, have a great trip!!

Leaving thursday night (or friday morning) for our drive.:goodvibes. upstate ny- port canaveral.... Any weather reports for the 81-77-26 route? Snowing up here right now.. and I really don't want to drive 95 :scared1: the whole way....

We're doing a road trip from Kansas City to Orlando in late May. I'm trying to find a good travel table for the kids to eat their snacks on. They no longer use car seats, but I'm wondering if this table would work. Has anyone tried a table like this for their kids not in car seats?

That looks perfect! We took something like this on one trip. They were hard plastic trays with "pockets" on the sides. We found that the kids used them some, but not a lot. In our case because they were hard plastc, we found that they were more in the way than helpful. The one you are looking at looks like it can be folded up and shoved into a small space when not in use- that would be perfect! My kids did like to use the trays for eating and coloring or writing, so it would be nice to have. Also, for some reason, they really loved having them and were very excited about using them- guess something a little different in the car makes the tip that much more fun.

Two weeks from today we'll be waking up in Orlando!!!

Leaving on Feb. 24th from southern NH. Decided to do a rental car to avoid wear and tear on our own vehicles. My husband just update/upgraded our rental reservation and can't believe the deal we got.... $155, unlimited mileage for 10 days!! Hoping this will off-set the rising price of gas! Only downfall is that it is a "wildcard" reservation, so we won't know what we're getting until we pick it up the night of the 23rd. We will plan for small, but may end up with lots of room to spare.

Thanks for the offer, but we have to go to Disney - we will be bringing the signs our grandkids made for their mom who is running in the Princess half marathon (another thing to do before we leave - run by her house and pick up the signs) - plus we have charge of the kids while she runs. I don't look forward to that 4am trip to Epcot on Sunday morning - especially since we will probably be out until midnight on Sat - and keeping track of the kids in the crowd while we try to catch her at Magic Kingdom.
Luckily we are at Yacht Club and they are supposed to have buses to take us to the entrance to Epcot where the race starts. Then hop the monorail to MK, catch her run by there and back on the monorail to catch her cross the finish line at Epcot.

Total newbie here - never been on the transportation board....DH and I are discussing driving from our home in NH to WDW in March 2013 - I am so thrilled to see this thread and know so many folks enjoy driving to WDW - it will help us feel like we can do it - we have always flown in the past...we have done smaller 800 mile each way trips to visit relatives in Ohio for holidays etc - but never considered driving to WDW.

any tips/encouragement is appreciated...otherwise, I'll be reading the entire thread and finding some inspiration/encouragement

Today is Sunday and I am leaving on Friday morning!

Cool! Very cool, indeed!

Crusingkat: Save time: don't iron in advance of your journey since your clothes will only get wrinkled in the luggage. You'll have to re-iron once you arrive at your WDW resort. Our ironing is done after we arrive.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Oh, please remember to come back here and post what you got as your vehicle! Kinda like playing the lottery!!! :goodvibes

That is what we usually do for cruises - bring our clean but unpressed clothes but we send them out for pressing the day we board. But I hate to waste Disney time doing ironing. I use packing cubes and folders and our clothes don't get wrinkled - especially since they are only in the suitcase for our drive down.
Guess I can iron while relaxing watching TV tomorrow night.

We can't escape from ironing at WDW. But we don't waste any time because it's done in the morning while we're drying our hair/gettting dressed. And even though our V&A clothing arrives hanging up, an iron is sometimes needed.

We last drove down in 1995. We have flown every year since then.
My wife and I have contemplated driving down on a future trip.
I am not able to drive so it would solely be my wife driving,
when she is in the car driving for more than one hour, her back stiffens up.

Other than stopping frequently, how do you handle your back pain?
What else can you tell us to prepare for a long road trip such as this, other than packing snacks and food?
We are both early 50's.

thanks for your help.
Chuck

Hi chuck, other than stopping every two hours or so theres not much more you can do. A good friend of mine drove a semi for years and has a bad back, when he drives he has a lumbar support mat looking thing he sits on. im in outside sales and i drive about 50k per year for work, so for me the 16 hour trip is no big deal. I started having back pain a few years ago and my same friend told me to take the wallet out of my back pocket.:confused3 it worked.
I would leave as early in the am as pos. 1-2am to avoid the i95 philly, balt, wash. traffic.Sitting in traffic only makes the trip longer and the back hurt more. Even if you have to stop in nc for a nap, i would stay away from the i95 northeast city traffic at all cost.

I found these on another website today.I thought someone here may like them. :thumbsup2
The first picture, i didnt know he had a window.

The next picture, look at the kids in the back round. Long before video games. Just a better time.

This is SOOOOO true. I do it any time I'm making a long drive. It makes a huge difference. Every once and awhile I start having some lower back pain. After a few days of being grumpy, I think to look at my wallet. Virtually every time I'll see that my wallet has slowly filled up with various junk. Take the excess junk out and my back pain goes away.
