Since we are not in a rush I plan on driving 6-8 hours a day, camping 2 nights both ways. Should I pre book a site or play it by ear? I just need a place to tent camp.![]()
"Forty-nine trips and counting," eh dvczerfs?
We expect to close within one next month with our trip #48; however, all of our pre-2002 WDW trips were by air so it appears that you will always have the driving record.

We are 1020 mile drivers each way and only do straight through. 14.5 to 16 hours with CC set at 9 over. Gas and 1 meal stop.

Mike declares we are DONE with January/February. Too cold.
Hi all!
I just realized we leave Dis for our long road trip to NJ on Labor Day!
Now I'm scared! I'm sure 95 must be a parking lot with everyone headed back up north. Has anyone had any experience with this?
in June!! Yay to family time together. Plus celebrating the DVCZerfs DD graduation!!!
And growing up too fast
We are hoping we go twice this year. We have reservations but only AAA. I want an AP discount in June, then we will definitely go in November. We loved Christmas time last year and are hoping that Thanksgiving week will be "tolerable" for us. Kids are out of school all week, so no time away, even if we take an extra day or two, no big deal.
Mike declares we are DONE with January/February. Too cold.
We are definitely June every year, and hope to make November a regular thing, too.
We agree. Our solution: a 2,000+ mile round-trip drive next month!
All the best.![]()
Indeed!
Let's cure that with this question: How many of you 2,000+ mile round trip drivers have done a "straight-through" drive, i.e., from your home to WDW/Lake Buena Vista in one day/one driving period?
We rarely stop for meals, and if we do it is BK, McD or Popeyes. DH packs sandwiches, sodas, snacks & breakfast foods that we eat at the rest stops. It usually takes us about 20 hours, but we usually stay pretty close to the speed limit. I don't want my vacation ruined by a ticket or an accident. Since we are an older couple, we tend to take our time and enjoy the ride.
What would you do? We were planning on leaving on May 4 around 5 am get to Ga spend the night then get to Disney the next day now I'm thinking pick up grand daughter after I get done at work on May 3 around 4 come home load the car leave around 6 pm drive till we get tired then get up and drive the rest of the way into Disney on the 4th. Leaving from the Harrisburg area and planning on going 15 to 17 to 95 as of now. This would be our first driving trip to Disney This would give us a extra day in Disney although will we be to tired on the 5th to enjoy any of the parks or maybe we could just do a water park that day.
