:lmao: stop talkin about me again!:lmao: i never took any other way but i4. (knock on wood) never had to sit in traffic on it and im the guy in the left lane, shall i say, driving offensively.:lmao: just stay to the right and no one will get hurt!:lmao:

Yeah, that's because you LIVE in your car all day, so you can handle everything that comes your way and not freak out :rotfl: We're just simple country folk

Hi everyone,

Subbing to this thread. Husband and I are taking our blended family to Disney this September. We are a family of eight with the six kiddos ranging from 8 to 17. My three have been to Disney twice having driven once...hubby's kiddos have never been. We are driving from Central Maine which puts us at a grand total of 3040 miles round trip. When I drove last, my kiddos were 3, 7, and 9 back in 2004 and we left at midnight, making it to Kingsland, GA at midnight with just a short trip to Disney the next morning. It was ideal and the kids were great save for the last hour or so to Kingsland. I think we will do the same this year but leave before midnight as we live an hour north of where we lived the last time. I can't remember the route we took but it was mostly 95 and we didn't encounter much traffic at all. I'm looking forward to the planning as it's part of the fun for me!

E.:yay:

Welcome! If you got a question, we got an answer

What kind of vehicle will you be driving?

:lmao: when we get together in june, youll have to ask tammy.:lmao: she just sits there, holds on to her seat belt and closes her eyes.:lmao: i didnt know royersford was the country.:lmao

We only had a hard time on I-4 once, when we timed it very badly ... arrive in Orlando at 3 pm. And it started raining. :scared1: But, we weren't delayed more than 10 minutes. We took the bypass another time when we were coming back from Daytona, again when it was rush hour in the pm. Hated stopping every few miles to pay a toll.

I-4 isn't bad if you time it right. This time we will be arriving Sunday in the early afternoon. We will be heading north on the turnpike around 9 am on a thursday, so this won't be too bad either as we will be going in the opposite direction of the traffic.

In October we took the Auto-train, and got on I-4 in Sandord at 9 am Sunday. You could have shot a cannon off down I-4 at that time and not hit anybody. It's all in the planning.

Hi there!

Heading down to WDW in August; just mom and me! We will be driving down to Disney in order to "try" and save some money, with the prices of flights right now, this seems to be the way to go for us - Hyundai Accent = pretty good gas mileage.
Plan as of right now is:
Leave around noon on a Friday and make our way to D.C. (overnight there, and tour D.C. Saturday).
Saturday afternoon leave D.C. and drive until we are tired (overnight somewhere, hopefully South Carolina/Georgia area).
Sunday morning leave and make our way to POP Century.

Question is, are there any routes to avoid? Times to avoid said routes? Tips for driving and staying busy during the drive. Mom and I are 55 and 22 respectively. So kiddie ideas may work for me, only about an hour, haha :-) Are we CRAZY to drive 23 hours each way/2700 miles :scared1:

I would really appreciate any advice anyone can give me about this drive, NH to POP Century and back!!!

this is just my op. and my op. only, but, i think your asking for trouble as far as traffic. if you are planning on coming down i95, leaving at noon from nh,on a friday in the summer, you are going to hit all kinds of city, shore and rush hour traffic from your home to dc. the philly area starting around 2pm gets jammed with shore traffic and it wont get any better heading to balt. or dc. if you could, i would leave 3am-4am friday morning to stand a chance.:thumbsup2

Let's see...1,073 (original drive mileage + distance from Holiday Inn Express to Grand Floridian) mile ride complete. Time for a ride on the monorail!

All the best. :thumbsup2

Correction: A launch to the MK via the Poly.
Monorail tonight for dinner at the Cal. Grill.
Ah.....

All the best. :thumbsup2

I did a comparision of driving versus flying and this is what I came up with:

I based these calculations on the fact that we will be driving approx. 2200 miles and will likely fill up at least one time while in Orlando.

Cost per gallon $3.00 $4.00 $5.00 $6.00
Miles Per Gallon
15 $507.40 $676.53 $845.67 $1,014.80
16 $479.06 $638.75 $798.44 $958.13
17 $454.06 $605.41 $756.76 $908.12
18 $431.83 $575.78 $719.72 $863.67

For myself, DH and DD to fly it would cost $1,253.86 (includes flight, rental car, airport parking). So even if I only get 15 miles/gallon and the price of gas is $6.00/gal then I will still be ahead $200+.

Sorry this chart doesn't come out too good on the board but hopefully you get the idea.

Alright, I need opinions from all the drivers here... originally we had this planned:

Friday - leave at 9pm, drive through the night until we reach Valdosta, GA (estimating around 6pm Saturday) then finish the drive to WDW the following morning hopefully getting there close to rope drop but probably not by that exact moment (especially with having to check in first)

Now I was sitting here thinking... DH works until 4:00 on Friday and normally gets home around 4:20ish. We were going to try to get some sleep beforehand but I cannot fathom anyone sleeping before we leave for Disney. If we leave right away when DH gets home, that would land us somewhere in Indiana by midnight and then we could stop for around 5 hours or so to rest then be off in the early morning and still make Valdosta by 6pm (maybe farther, who knows).

Would you think the second option is better? I need to present these ideas to DH yet so I'm not sure on his feelings but I do know that he wasn't exactly thrilled about driving through the night.

im not sure were your starting from and how long of a drive you got but it really dont matter, your still getting to the same spot at the same time. your just going to pay for a hotel room.BUT, IM WITH YOU!! it starts about 3-4 days before we leave, i dont sleep.:lmao: we leave 3-3:30am and i try to go to sleep around 8pm the night before and it never works. i get about 4 hours of sleep from 8pm to 3am.:lmao: not sure were your from but in most areas at 5pm on a friday, your gonna sit in traffic anyway and you wont have to pay for a hotel.:thumbsup2

Sorry, we'd be leaving from NE Wisconsin. About an hour north of Milwaukee to be exact. We would hit Milwaukee's rush hour which really is nothing and Chicago would be around 8:00 on Friday night.

I brought it up to DH and he doesn't like the idea. Grrr... I just think he's not going to sleep and that driving for 16 hours straight is going to be rrrrrroooouuugghhhhh! Ah well, it's up to him I guess.

nice chart!!!! :thumbsup2 dont forget you dont get patted down when you drive and you know whos sitting next to you. $1253 even seems cheap from some of the prices ive been hearing. i told the story earlier about friends of ours this past december. they flew down and back instead of following us because its" faster". on there trip home, with changing flights, lay overs and delays they had, it took them just as long to fly as it did us to drive.:thumbsup2 but it only take 2 hours to fly there.:lmao:

16 hours in a car driving to wdw is easier than 16 hours driving just about anywere else.:thumbsup2 maybe he will be able to sleep, i know i would be laying there looking at the ceiling but maybe he can sleep.:lmao: good luck and have a safe trip.:thumbsup2

I would go with the first plan to save money or even starting mid morning so your DH is happier driving all day?

It is the same here in our house. I alone will drive for 13+ hours only stopping for gas and bathroom. Dh wants to stop every other exit and stop after about 8 hours of driving and get a room. We try to find a happy medium. When I am the driver we don't stop at the exits. When he drives we do and we stop after about 10 hours to find a hotel.
