FOP vs Star Tours vs Soarin'

Looking from a motion sickness Point of view, which one is FOP more like...Star tours or Soarin? My 6 year old nearly puked last summer on Star Tours but did fine with Soarin. I was making plans for next years trip and I'm unsure how she will handle FOP. What is your experience if prone to motion sickness?!

I agree with PP. It's more like Soarin (not jerky like Star Tours), but you sit on your own seat so you can fly, dive and turn a little more intricately than you can with the seating set-up on Soarin'.

I can only ride Star Tours once and then it usually makes me queasy, but FOP did not bother me at all. It's a lot smoother than Star Tours.

I felt horrible after Star Tours and totally fine after Soarin and FOP. FOP had a few moments I needed to close my eyes but nothing major. My 7 yo gets motion sickness too- he didn't love Star Tours but rode FOP twice in a row (had rider switch bc of younger DS) and was fine!

It's definitely more like Soarin - but with much more movement and motion .... it's just that it is much smother and perfectly synced to the screen

I rode FoP twice and I my stomach definitely felt it a bit and I am usually pretty good ... I think your 6 year old should be fine, but maybe not twice in a short period of time to be safe

I would say a small step from soaring and a few big steps down from star tour.

For me:
Star Tours = Super Barf
Soarin'= Slightly barfy in spots (but much better than the old one)
FoP = ZERO barf, best ride ever, anywhere

Neither really.

Despite the semi-recent update, Star Tours is 1987's technology. Fop is new technology.

It is kind of like comparing an old wooden coaster to RNRC, and even RNRC isn't very new (1999).

To me, Soarin' isn't really in the same ballpark at all. Soarin' is little more than a bad Imax film with a bit of tilt.

In all seriousness, quality Imax films give me a greater sense of motion (and excitement) than Soarin' does.

Though it got an updated film, the original Soarin' opened in 2001, so that technology is 16 years old. Digital film quality has come a long ways in the last 16 years. The iPhone came out in 2007.

IMO, the FoP technology is worlds away from the kind of technology that existed in 1987.

FoP is the only ride that my daughter got queasy on during our last trip (though we knew to stay away from Mission:Space orange and the Teacups). She can do both Star Tours and Soarin' without much problem. She was fine the first day that we did FoP, but she closed her eyes several times. The second day she wanted to try to keep them open, and ended up quite queasy by the end. She said that she would still ride in the future but that she would close her eyes on the dives.

Like Soarin. Smooth. But visually much more challenging in terms of eye focus since the action on the screen is much faster, changes quickly and requires your eyes to refocus often. Don't know if that is just something for older 40-something eyes or if others have experienced. FOP actually reminded me that I should make an eye appointment for a check up as it has been a few years.

More like Soarin.' I get motion sick on Star Tours. At the very beginning of FoP I started to get a bit motion sick (only very briefly) but I realized I was "fighting the ride." The only way I can explain it is that FoP is extremely immersive and it feel like you are really there. When I started to feel a bit nauseous I realized I was treating it like a ride instead of allowing myself to just experience what was "really" happening. Once I decided to just allow myself to feel like I was actually there the sick feeling immediately went away and I loved every second. I am one of the crazy people who cried during the ride because it is so overwhelming in a good way that it made me super emotional. It's now my favorite ride at WDW.

I just rode this for the first time 2 days ago. I was quite nervous, because I tend to get motion sickness and also don't like big rides. I've ridden RnRC and Everest each once and never care to ride again. I hate Space Mountain and get quite sick if I don't close my eyes. I love Test Track. I have to close my eyes on parts of Star Tours and Soarin, even though I enjoy them. FOP was AMAZING. Best ride ever. If the motion started to bother me, I just closed my eyes for a few seconds and was fine (this tended to happen when swooping around curves). I would totally ride again.

Its not like either one. I rode FOP for the first (and second) time yesterday. Star Tours is jerky and can cause an upset stomach. There is none of that in FOP. It is very smooth. Soarin scares me. It is beautiful, and I always ride it, but I am always scared I'm going to fall out. There is none of that sensation in FOP. You are obviously not going to fall out of FOP. It is the most incredible ride Disney has made. I can understand why people wait so long for it. I am thankful we didn't have to. None of the negatives that apply to some of the other rides apply to this one. It is just awesome.

My husband has a huge problem with simulator rides, he can't ride many things at Universal, and always gets at least a little sick on ST, but had absolutely no issues at all with FOP!

As others have noted FoP is more like Soarin', but much more immersive. Just like disneyvoice I at first also felt a bit unsettled, or perhaps overloaded by the rich scenery flying by. Then I focused my visual attention on the 'ride leader' who was flying out in front. Part of the story of the ride is that you are supposed to be 'following the leader'. Once my attention was focused I settled down and really enjoyed the ride. By watching the ride leader you get to see where you will be going and anticipate the more 'dynamic' moves.

I thought the physical motion on FoP was quite gentle. Not at all like Star Tours which I feel is very rough. The most intense input on FoP comes through your eyes from the incredible 3D IMAX images.

Like many others I think FoP is the best ride at WDW.
