Footwear

I did crocs on my last trip. The first few days, without socks. That caused a horrible blister on my right foot. The last three days were with socks and that made a huge difference.

I'd say crocs. They kept my feet from being in excruciating pain, but my legs still hurt.

Ok people, here is the solution for how to make your Crocs uber comfy if you don't like the bottom of your feet against rubber and you also don't want to wear socks:

Put in some Dr. Schol's inserts. They can't be the cheapest ones... they're too flimsy and fold up in the shoe while you're walking. Get the ones with charcoal - they are grey on the top and blue on the bottom.

And then you will be wearing the
most.
comfy.
shoes.
ever.

Has anyone heard of/tried using anti-perspirant on their feet? I've read on some hiking sites that you can do it. Anyone?

I'm a shoe rotater: Keens w/ no socks, tennis shoes w/ socks, and Crocs (with or without socks). :thumbsup2

my feet do not sweat, guess Im lucky but I still wear my crocs with socks. but the Dr. Schol's insert sounds awesome. maybe I will go with out socks now!!

I used to be a huge fan of rotating, but something has changed either in my feet or the shoes, and I can't wear my running shoes anymore. And that has lasted for 2 pairs of them...they seem to destroy my feet.

I had a chance meeting with a woman whose grown (same age as I am) daughter has wide feet like I do, and she had found the Disney theme Crocs Athens at the parks, and now swears by them. The woman called her daughter up, and I saw that she had wide swathes of bandaids across the skin of the top of her foot, but she said her foot bones etc were so comfy it didn't matter.

And that has been my experience, since I bought the same Athens (at WOD, but they were also in the very back, facing away from the door, of Rushin' River Outfitters at GRR). My skin isn't in love with them, but the more important parts of my feet can't get enough of them. And standing in lines in the Athens feels even better than walking! They are just so cushy for my feet.

I still have a problem with where one part of left foot is rubbed by the strap (I didn't even get a blister, it just took off the skin, and then I went on Grizzly, and my skin is horribly sensitive to GRR's water) since my feet are wide and Crocs aren't made for wide feet (they are made to fit BIG on *average* feet), and my "index" toes have a blister problem...so I have my "index" toes wrapped in bandaids, put a big bandaid on the top of my foot where it rubs, and then....

use BodyGlide (I got it at REI) all over the tops of my feet...

and now I am at last VERY comfy at the parks, without having to switch shoes every 5 minutes.

(this is such a change from a year ago!)

...I bought a pair of Skecher's sandals that have the strap across the top of my foot that is adjustable. I got the cuteness and comfort/coolness of sandals with the comfort on the bottom of a tennis shoe.

I have got to check those out. They look so cute, and I've seen that they have widths.

Try on every pair of Skecher's available. I must have tried on 8 different pair. I went with my Dsis and we both liked the same pair - but she has longer narrower feet than I do and they weren't as comfy for her. She chose a similar pair that didn't feel as good to me. The funny thing is that I can't wear regular Skecher's shoes - even though some of their styles are just soooooo cute and I wish I could wear them - but, sadly they don't fit my feet at all!! So, I was really surprised to find that their sandals fit me!!

I love, love, love to be able to choose widths. In most shoes I am just the regular width and in others I am a wide - I think it just depends on the manufacturer. We always have a terrible time finding really comfy shoes for DH - he has wide toes, super high arches and very narrow heels.

I just can't make myself wear anything other than tennis shoes..I tried, I took flip flops this last time and even with my feet hot I could not make myself wear the flip flops....just couldn't do it. I have seen too many people get stepped on, run over, or otherwise have their toes mangles and I just can't do it...even with my cute polished toe nails and Henna, I just can't....I wear tennis shoes w/Dr Scholl's gel inserts.

sketchers never worked for me, there just not wide enough. No matter how badly I wanted a pair non ever worked right. new balance was great, but the pair I want is over 100.00 ( have always worn these) and with the trip and costs for school cloths etc I just could not justify it this time around. crocs are it this trip.

We always go in the off season so it's not hot yet. At home in Phoenix, I refuse to wear socks and shoes from about late April thorugh September. At DL I always wear sneakers and socks. I always take two pair of sneakers too and swap them out. I take flip flops too but those are more for in the hotel and if we happen to grab dinner outside the park.

I have a "bad foot" anyway and have to be caceful. I've begun bringing my heating pad with me so I can work out some of the pain with that. As long as I don't get blisters I can deal. lol

I will agree that Crocs are some of the most comfy shoes ever. I had a pair. Left them in the car one day at work and they shrunk from the heat. Dangit!

Crocs are the devil to my feet because they are not designed for those of us with high arches. If you have flat to normal feet you will have a better time with them, high arches don't waste your money!!

I hate socks too and unless its cold or I am going for Bat's Day I wear my Montrail Flip Flops. They have actually arch support and are so comfortable for those of us with high arches! I wore them in WDW and on so many DLR trips and I have always been comfy!

Okay, I posted earlier about Crocs, but totally forgot that on our trip to DL in December I wore these:

They are expensive, but they are the BEST shoes I've ever worn for comfort and support. People are running marathons in them and hiking in them. I literally took them out of the box, put them on my feet and then spent an entire day schelpping around Disneyland and California Adventure. Not an ache or pain! Truly amazing.

They are made with gortex and they do get warm, so I'm pretty sure they won't be the best thing for a summer trip. But in the winter they were awesome!
