Foot Surgery Question

I have a bone chip in my little toe. It is from breaking it four or five times. I have now learned to wear shoes!!! LOL> Anyway I can only wear sneakers and have been to three foot doctors. Some tell me it is arthritis and there is a point sicking into my sink(edited to say SKIN, who cares about my sink) either from the chip of the poor healing. I know this is a shot in the dark but has anyone had surgery for this. ONe doctor wants to just open the toe and shave it down. Another wants to cut out bone and reset the toe. Of course you can guess which one I want to do!! I was wondering if anyone had this done ( shaving down the bone) and how long it was before you could walk w/out crutches. They told me 1 week at least off my feet but how long before you could wear shoes?

I may be able to let you know after Tuesday. My 18mo daughter is having foot surgery. They are removing an extra toe. They also have to shave off part of the bone and cut the tendons in another toe. I am not looking forward to this at all.

I dont know how I am going to keep a very active girl off of her feet.

On the plus side.. I cant wait to go shoe shopping fo rher once it heals.

They told me 1 week at least off my feet but how long before you could wear shoes?

Probably around 4 weeks, due to swelling and pain you may feel when your foot is squeezed into the shoe. You can always buy some shoes/sneakers for those weeks that are 1/2 to one size larger. Good luck, I think you will find it is worth fixing this problem!

Lisa, good luck! An 18 month who needs to sit quietly....I do not know if that phenomenon exists! Seriously, kids heal much faster than adults and at least you can carry her. I do not see my husband carrying me

Thanks Saphire that is what they all tell me 4 weeks. I was just trying to figure out when to have it so that it does not interfere w/ my disney trip but that is in July.
