foods you used to love but can't find anymore

Not really a food, but, I miss the soft crushed ice that so many restaurants/fast food places used to serve in their drinks. The only place I've found it recently is Sonic Burger. (and the closest one to us is 20 minutes away!) I'll go there and order two cups of just ice! :lmao:

Green Goddess salad dressing. I have a taco salad recipe that uses this, and the salad is definately no good without it.

I just checked the United Northeast CO-OP catalog and they sell green goddess dressing by the case (8 or 12 bottles). :wizard:

Green River Soda, I would kill for a bottle of that.
I've been able to get this, but I had to get special order it from Dominick's (Chicago area grocery chain)

Wow, I forgot all about Green River soda. I grew up in the Chicago; that was a special treat my mom occasionally bought for us. I'll add that to my list of things to eat/drink when I'm up there visiting. Can you still get a chocolate phosphate anywhere?

A few weeks ago my husband wanted Alphabits. We were shocked to find they're no longer around. Anyone know when they stopped making them?

I have a couple of things. The first is some sort of chocolate candy bar. I can't remember what it was called. But it was rather thick, but had a kind of malty texture to it. I wish I could figure out what it was so I could try to track it down. It must be a good 15 years sense I have had one. They might be the Marathon bars you are all talking about, but I'm not sure.

The second is the boil and bag meals they used to make. There was one that was chicken, cheese, and rice. Yummy! And one that was beef and gravy that I would pour over bread. Quick, easy, and good.

Was it a Milkshake bar? I remember having those when I was a kid and they were great!

I went to Reggie Day at Yankee Stadium maybe 10-12 years ago and they sold Reggie Bars that day--we all got them, still as yummy as I remembered!

I miss Fudgetown cookies most of all. Why do they not make them anymore? Ugh!
Also, I think they were called Giggles--vanilla cookies and chocolate cookies that had a smiley face on each.
Actually I remember those in the mid 80s, I think they were just like something simlar i had as a kid in the late 70s which is what I really miss more, but I can't remember that name.

OMG!!!!! My sister and I LOVED Giggles!!!! I miss them - I was just thinking about them not too long ago during a conversation with her.

There were two salad dressing I used to buy when I lived in NJ. Not sure if they were Seven Seas or who put them out. One was cucumber, the other was bacon. YUM! Couldn't find either flavor at all when I lived in FL. Now here in VA, I only see cucumber by one of the store chains. Afraid to try that!

There was also a spaghetti sauce I used in NJ that was great. It's been what...about 18 years since then, and I still can't find one I'm happy with. :snooty:

Just remembered one more--Campbell's Meatball Alphabet soup. I used to eat that constantly when I was kid and was really upset when they quit making it. I mean, regular alphabet soup is good, but it's not the same. Then, I'm thinking sometime in the late-'80s, early-'90s, they started making it again for a very short time, and then it disappeared again. Whenever I think to, I check at the store to see if they've started making it again, but no luck so far.

I was so upset when I realized I couldn't get meatball Alphabet soup anymore. I'll wish Campbell's would make them again!!

Yay, there are 2 of us!! I always wondered if I was the only one who really loved that soup. Maybe we should start a letter-writing campaign. ;)

Seriously, if I find an address for Campbell's, I'm all over a letter-writing campaign. I WANT MY MEATBALL ALPHABET!

Salsa and Cream Cheese chips!!! I think tostitos made them. I would give anything to taste that delicious powder again.

I had forgotten about chocolite bars--they were awesome.
I can't find my favorite pop-tarts anymore. I LOVE frosted grape. They were gone for years, then Meijer had them for a while, but discontinued them. They were the only poptarts I would eat!
I don't miss this, but I remember Burger King had a sandwich called a Yumbo--I think it was ham and cheese--my sister used to get it in the 70s. Or I'm hallucinating!

-Cheese Waffies: These were a kind of snack in the chips aisle. They were teeny waffle-shaped sandwich things with super-salty electric orange filling. Completely artificial, but my brother and I could finish off the bag in one sitting! :scared: My mother insists they still sell them but I'm not sure I could inflict them on my body at this age!

This used to be our official road trip snack. Whenever we were going to my grandparents', my mom would buy a bag. They are still made - by Wise, I think it is.

OMG, I love Sonic's ice!! LOL

We used to have a D'Lites around here. Sadly, it turned into a Burger King. I loved that place. Those potato skins rocked!

Another thing I remembered that I miss: Mr. Salty Pretzels. I loved all that salt! Today's pretzels just aren't salty enough.

Rice Cremola. Loved the stuff, but it hasn't been on the shelves for about 20 years now.

Just remembered one more -

Sour Cream and Onion Ranch dressing.

Oooh -

Some one you mentioned the Jello 1-2-3!

They don't sell it anymore, but you can make something similar. You prepare regular jello, but instead of adding cold water, you add about 2 cups of *still frozen* cool whip. It melts as you stir it into the hot water/jello, then pour it in a tray or cups. It forms layers as it sets! :) And you can make it fat free/sugar free or whatever you like. :)

You are not hallucinating, this was my favorite meal at Burger King, a Jumbo with a vanilla shake and onion rings..yum! :yay:

It was me who mentioned the Jello 1-2-3! Thanks so much for this tip! I am going to try it next week!

For all those who love Marathon bars, the Curly Wurly from the UK is the same thing. They are $2 or $2.50 at Epcot, or $.99 at your local World Market. Mine doesn't always have them, but when they do I buy several. DD7 loves them as much as I do.

There's a *really good reason* you people can't find this stuff any more. :crazy2: You could nearly vomit just reading the descriptions of some of this mess. :rotfl:

Lemon Coolers - They were cookies that came in a green box. They might have been by Nabisco. I haven't seen them in years.
