Do you save Cool Whip, Country Crock, or other plastic containers for food storage?

I just spent $5 on Ziploc storage containers at the store TODAY, but I will be darned if I throw away this empty Cool Whip container! :rotfl: So, off to the dishwasher it goes!

I do, they are sometimes a bit larger than the others that I have in the cupboard and come in handy.

I am less likely to forget left overs if I can SEE what is inside the container without opening it.

And butter is about the only thing we have that comes in a reusable container that could be used for food storage. I'm likely to forget and think I have an extra tub of butter, and then get a nasty surprise when it is time to open the new container.:rotfl2:

I guess I never thought of that! That would be a shocker!

We use a certain shelf for leftovers, so my DH knows to eye in on those tubs and containers ;)

Nope, don't use containers food came in for storing other foods. Mostly it's because you can't see what is in them. However, I buy the containers that you get salads at the deli counter for storage. I can get them wholesale and they're MUCH cheaper than buying rubbermaid, ziploc, or glad containers. I do sacrifice a little on quality, but I'm willing to do that because my plastic storage containers have a tendency to walk or lose their lids.

I try to have shelf..and then my kids "rearrange" things...i.e., they don't follow the system and put things back where they darn well feel like it. They get bonus points that said item returned to the actual refrigerator. I can't get nitpicky about shelves.:rolleyes1

Yes, I do this all the time. Had quite a few of those lunchmeat containers, when my daughter was eating a lot of sandwiches, and they are good for taking to work, where I don't care if I forget the container.

If I put something in a butter container, I try to make sure to put it a different shelf than where I usually keep my butter, lol.

Yup.. And if not for food storage, I always find some other use for them.. "Waste not, want not..." ;)

Hmm... good idea! I'll have to keep this in mind.

Oh, don't get me started! :rotfl: Everything has its place!

My favorite ones to save are the side dish containers from KFC. We don't go there very often, but we went a few weeks ago and were impressed with their side dish containers. Perfect size for snacks!

It's the same in my house.

Everything has a place....that I determine....

And then there are all the other places that everyone else has determined.:headache:

I have finally had enough and am on a reorganization kick.

Sometimes & they are handy when you want to give someone a taste of a favorite recipe. That way you don't need to worry about getting your container back. I'm with other posters too; prefer containers you can see through.

i used to save any cool whip or margarine bowls for my grandmother (at her insistence, lol) but now DH takes hillshire farm lunchmeat on a sandwich in his lunch to work and the hillshire farm deli meats come in gladware containers, so i just save her those, and she's THRILLED, you'd think i gave her a million dollars, bless her heart, lol.

This is so ME!

It made me LOL...

Today, DH and I were raking the yard, and he was going to drag some leaves from the side to the front with a tarp... only he couldn't find the tarp. He said, "Where is my tarp. It's not on my tool shelf."

I told him that I moved it from the tool shelf to the gardening/yard equipment shelf, because it wasn't a tool, and I didn't like it there.

I moved the silverware drawer today.

Hubby was soo good to unpack the kitchen before we arrived in town. I was being good by not undoing anything.

But I finally got fed up. Forks and spoons galore crammed into a tiny drawer. So I moved it all to a nice WIIIIIDE drawer and organized the utensils hte way that I like...lots of room. Then moved his junk drawer from the wide open space.

He came home for dinner and I already had the utensils out. I mentioned I moved things around and you would have thought I told him I just went on a shopping spree at Tiffany.:lmao: Okay--he wasn't mad, but ever read that book "Who Moved my Cheese?" Well, I moved his forks.

But when he could see that they were all nice and comfy all nicely arranged--he was cool with it.

But I must keep watch that they don't make their way back to the shoebox drawer.:crowded:

I almost never have cool whip or margarine tubs to reuse. I never use them in the first place. However I do have a large stock of deli meat containers.

I also have a strong prejudice against cool whip and country crock containers. My parents divorce was truly NASTY and my father actually petitioned the judge for custody of the "tufferware". Despite the fact that it is called Tuperware, and we only had a few pieces - the rest was cool whip containers. So yes, my father asked a judge to award him used cool whip containers. :rotfl: I just can't bring myself to use them.

I do not because they do not seal well and leftovers do not stay as long or as fresh in them.

We have good sealing food storage containers meant for the job.

DH had food poisoning once, so he's really big on proper food handling, storage and length of storage.

I don't have a lot of plastic containers, but I save all the glass. Peanut butter jars, jelly jars, etc.
I use those for other things. If we have plastic I tend to reuse those for storage for other things, like craft supplies, crayons, pencils, pens, etc.
or those itty bitty teeny tiny polly pocket parts :rotfl:
