Food Storage... Do YOU Do This...?

I do this. The other day my husband exclaimed "Why is there cottage cheese in the pantry?!". I laughed because it wasn't cottage cheese but almond bark stored away. :)

I don't, but my Mom does. I think I don't like the cool whip containers because they are not see through. .. if I can't see it then I tend to forget about it. But. . I do reuse the lunch meat ones. . Healthy Choice . . Hillshire Farms, etc. :thumbsup2

Do you save Cool Whip, Country Crock, or other plastic containers for food storage?

I just spent $5 on Ziploc storage containers at the store TODAY, but I will be darned if I throw away this empty Cool Whip container! :rotfl: So, off to the dishwasher it goes!

Yes, and if it is not for food, then it comes in handy for other things around the house/garage:guilty:

I save them and I use them to give leftovers to guests when they come over for dinner and then they don't have to worry about getting them back to me. My mom comes over about once a week for dinner and I always send extras home with her. I also sometimes take leftovers to one of my student employees. He's learning to cook so I take him the food and give him the recipe so if he likes it he can make it himself later.

I lose a lot of them at Thanksgiving and Christmas when I send all sorts of food home with folks.

Sometimes & they are handy when you want to give someone a taste of a favorite recipe. That way you don't need to worry about getting your container back. I'm with other posters too; prefer containers you can see through.

This is what I use them for too. When I make meals for other people or send leftovers home I use these containers so they don't have to worry about getting mine back to me (or I don't worry that they will forget).

I always save them because I am a preschool teacher, and I always have little things like art supplies to put away.

I try to err on the side of caution, so although I don't think plastic is the devil, I only store my food in glass or stainless steel containers. My MIL always stores/freezes/heats in leftover cool whip and butter containers though. I eat the food, figure a little bit won't hurt.

I am less likely to forget left overs if I can SEE what is inside the container without opening it.

And butter is about the only thing we have that comes in a reusable container that could be used for food storage. I'm likely to forget and think I have an extra tub of butter, and then get a nasty surprise when it is time to open the new container.:rotfl2:

Nothing worse then taking your leftovers to work and finding you microwaved butter!

My favorite ones to save are the side dish containers from KFC. We don't go there very often, but we went a few weeks ago and were impressed with their side dish containers. Perfect size for snacks!

the new plastic ones are the greatest. i was amazed that they are dishwasher safe too (unlike the deli containers for the most part). also, since they are desiged to be able to stack the containers in the to-go bags, they stack realy well in the fridge.

i don't save the cool whip and other containers cuz i like any container to be microwavable, and some containers are not (i've seen them cause arks and begin to smoke/melt in microwaves).

good grief, when my mom moved into elder living and we cleaned out her home the number of old cool whip and margerine containers she had was insane:rotfl::rotfl: my brother could'nt believe the number she had squirrled away in the cabinets-and it made him even more annoyed when he remembered all the times mom sent home food with him with the caution that he better return the container:rotfl2: (she had hundreds of them).

I save Cool Whip containers, and the clear plastic containers that slivered lunchmeat comes in, but not butter dishes. My Mom used to do this, as did my Grandma, so the "habit" is just being carried on. :)
