Food/restaurant costs.....

Hey, My gf and I will be heading down on March 23 for a 12 days stint in florida including 5-6 days in the orlando area. Can any fellow canucks comment on food/restaurant prices? Meaning-are groceries/meals comparable or roughly the same price (allowing for the conversion to US $'s) or are we likely to find basic groceries/meals cheaper than what we see at home?

I think for the most part you will find that once you do the math you will be paying the same price for things except maybe fruit might be cheaper. You could find a deal on some items especially things on sale however.

The US is really good at cheap meals in restaurants though. Take something like Ponderosa or Perkins, etc. The food isn't always the best but you can't find it as cheap in Ontario.

Theme parks will cost a fortune so be ware. if you can carry in your back pack snack foods and pop or water then do it. This alone can save you alot of money 10 to 15 dollars US a day. and be ready to tip quite abit. We are quite aware of the need to tip people but if this is an issue for you then try and avoid places like this. I found that even for a quick sit down breakfast I was adding about 3 to 4 dollars onto the bill just in tips. Not a big deal but it could be somthing you were not counting into your budget.

We always go into the grocery stores when we are down in Orlando and generally we find the prices are more expensive because of the exchange rate except if things are on sale. For instance if bananas here are $0.49/lb they are $0.49/lb in Orlando which means that really they are 20% higher. There is a lot more variety in their grocery stores though than here.
