Food Network & HGTV missing from my Cablevision.

Food Network is back on Cablevision as of 1/21!

Yeah, :cheer2: my ds18 was going through Food Network withdrawl for quite a while. He just kept whipping up stuff in our kitchen to compensate for his loss. Good, now I will get my pots and pans back to normal.

Just a note about this: There is nothing about Dish Network that will make it any less prone to outage due to interference from weather. There is a reason for the price difference between Dish Network and DirecTV. Consider Dish Network the "economy" satellite service -- the Wal-mart to DirecTV's Macy's. Depending on your preferences (i.e., price is more important than everything else), Wal-mart may be the best choice.

What exactly makes Dish more economical than Direct TV? The channels are the same and the dish looks like a dish. We have Dish and our reception is great so I don't see what's really different. What is "everything else"?

I asked DH who works for Direct TV and he doesn't understand this comment either. :confused3

According to WTNH they have reached a deal and HGTV and Food Network will be back ASAP...

I am beyond angry about this. We used to have Directv and switched back to Cable because we kept losing our signal everytime we had a little shower. I think if this goes on for more than a week I may look into Dish Network. I just checked their rates and they are better than Directv and the equipment is cheaper. I will never do Fios as we have had nothing but problems with Verizon on several levels.

I have DirecTV now in Ohio and had them for two years in FL. I have lost a signal one time only in the last 2.5 years in OH and when I was in FL only very severe thunderstorms or hurricanes blocked my signal. There is a multiple degree window of signal when you aim a dish. If you are close to the edge instead of the center you will have more problems with signal degradation. Anything short of perfect vertical alignment will also weaken the signal as would an installation that isn't completely solid.

Every case is different but most of the time when people I know are losing their signal as often it is a less then perfect installation that is causing or at least contributing to it.

I have been happy with DirecTv other than their loss of Versus because I love to watch cycling. It wouldn't be a bid deal if our NBC affiliate carried the Universal Sports sub channel but they don't so I can't even just use an antenna to get my cycling from US.

Yup, they came back yesterday (1/21). Though they're not discussing the increase...

It could just a pricing strategy, but I doubt it. I read all the time about DirecTV launching new satellites, piloting new services, etc.
