My kids have severe life threatening food allergies. Is it possible to have groceries delivered to regular room with a fridge at WL? I can't afford a villa w/ a kitchen; WL is a major splurge as it is, but it is close to MK! Thanks for helping a new comer!

Gardengrocer.com
We have had great luck with them.
Bought Everything; Juice, Milk, Fruit, Cereal, Cheese, Cold cuts
They have everything and the Prices are good.
Frigs and coffee pots are available for no charge.
Just have to ask at WL

We got a frig for no charge even at POP

P.S. Don't forget the water. We saved over $100
just buying water... 33 cents a bottle instead of $2.50.
We got two cases (24 bottles each) .
We could have used three cases for 4 of us.

Yes- we did it last year. DD has a peanut allergy, but we'd probably get snacks and drinks delivered anyway. Gardengrocer.com is the service we used.

I looked at gardengrocer, but they didn't have half the items on my list, so I ended up using wegoshop.com, and that worked out very well for me. You have to put together a very specific list for her, and she will go find everything, with a 10% markup for her time, plus a delivery charge. You can discuss everything in detail with her - which I'm sure is important with food allergies!

Thanks for the info! We are avoiding peanuts, all tree nuts, and eggs. I just wasn't sure how the resort staff would respond when we started lugging a weeks worth of groceries through the lobby to our room. Are toasters allowed? It would be nice for the kids to have a hot food option. :)

Not sure if you are aware, but WDW is very good about accomidating all of your special dietary needs. You probably will not need to order in a lot of food, nor prepare special meals yourself. :thumbsup2

At WDW, they deal with food allergies and special dietary needs on a daily basis. At table service restaurants, the chefs will frequently come to your table to discuss your specific needs, and will then point out 'safe' options on the menu... or offer to make something special just for your children. For counter service, again they can inform you of 'safe' options from the regular menu, or arrangements can sometimes be made in advance to have other options available for you. All you need to do is make certain that your needs are known and noted in advance.

For general information regarding special diets, contact Brenda Bennet at: Brenda.Bennet@disney.com There are also phone #s and emails available for contacting the special diets/food managers, or executive chefs, within each of the individual parks. I believe all of this contact info is listed on a sticky FAQs thread in the Disabilites forum. There is also lots of good information to be found in the "Passporter's Open Mouse for WDW"--if this is your first time visiting WDW, I highly recommend the Open Mouse guide book.

Hi, I just wanted to chime in also that you probably don't need half of what you think you do. My dd has a severe peanut allergy and Disney has to be one of the most accommodating places we have ever been. She was able to eat DESSERT in an actual restaurant!!! That usually doesn't happen. The chef would come out to the table to speak to us at every meal and several times prepared something special for dd. It was GREAT! :thumbsup2

Weren't you worried about an allergic reaction? I am afraid of my dd having an anaphylactic reaction.

Last time I was in WDE I used wegoshop.com Rather than choose from a list of available items - you send them a list of exactly what you want and whether or not subsitutions are acceptable. I highly reccommend them!

Not really. We eat out in restaurants regularly. We don't let her food allergy limit her life experiences. We're just very careful. If we have any doubts, we err on the side of caution. Our comfort zone is tighter than a lot of food allergic families we know. At the Disney restaurants the chefs would come out and talk to us. I'm telling you, they were fabulous. At counter services, most CMs were very knowledgeable and helpful. Also, Brenda Bennett is the best. Email her!
Do you ever read the forums on Peanutallergy.com? If not, check it out. They have a restaurant section as well as a travel section, both of which are very informative!

I have a question about the delivery. We are staying at ASMu FS and think this is a great idea, but we are not sure exactly what time we will arrive and my children want to go straight to the park. My question is..do you have to be in you room for the delivery or will CMs take the delivery to your room? Just wondering.

I have not checked them out, but will do so very soon! My dd is allergic to so many different foods I fear a meal from a public kitchen would make her incredibly sick if it didn't kill her. I'm just not sure it's worth the risk, even though I have heard plenty of good things about the chef's.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that we were in Disney in January with my son who has severe food allergies as well. (Peanut, treenut, shellfish, peas and white beans) We did do garden grocer since we were staying in a cabin. However, we also did eat a couple of meals out. I emailed Brenda ahead of time and she put me into contact with all of the head chef's where we had ADR's. I have never, ever, felt so good about having my son eat out. They all went above and beyond to make sure he had a safe enviornment to eat. Good Luck with whatever you choose to do.

My ds had a severe dairy allergy with a side of peanut & tree nut allergies for good measure!

I think I only brought snacks for him & breakfast (well for all of us) & we shipped it. Everything else we ate we bought. I felt at ease after talking to one of the chefs on the phone & Brenda Brenner on the phone too.

I was ready to bring down his staple food Tyson Chicken nuggets but I found out I didn't have to. That was in 2005 & he was 22 months old. We are going this summer & I will just bring our usual-breakfast & snacks but I may also bring him soy butter & the crackers he likes so he can have something else.
