We are going to be staying for 7 days in Disney. We have a huge problem. Our soon to be 9 yr old, usualy has a melt down around day 3 when we stay at a hotel. He has autism and while we really keep him on a good "normal" routine while we are on vacation food is a hard. By day 3 he just wants mommy's food.

OK heres the question can we bring a toaster and a hot plate to use in our room? We are taking the autotrain so we will have our own car to go food shopping.

Thanks so much. I really have no idea.

you're not suppose to use those items in your room, but you are more than welcome to use the microwave and toaster in the food courts!

Are you staying on a Disney property? Your best bet would be to book a resort/hotel which already provides an in-room microwave OR a small kitchenette. Those burners might pose a fire hazard and most don't allow them in rooms.

Thanks I didnt know they had them in the food court. Your right I would never want to do anything to cause a fire.

Hi Holly -

I understand!!

DS has Asperger's and his food issues were very tough when he was younger. For him, it was the sensory issues - how food looked, couldn't touch on the plate, only KRAFT mac & cheese, etc. He's now 14. Keeps trying new things. Still prefers over processed chicken tenders to the handmade kind, but loves to go to restaurants.

Though DS was not that young on his first Disney trip, we did travel with him quite abit when he was younger - he had 3 cruises under his belt by the time he was five. What I found was that being in the new and different environment made him LESS likely to "melt". He was more receptive to new foods and was able to be flexible. Quite honestly, I was shocked, and still am.

We should move this to the DISability board maybe. You need to enjoy your trip also and don't need to be cooking every day for DS. You might be surprised to find that the other interesting things in the setting of a WDW restaurant will get him to eat things he normally would reject or suffer a meltdown over.

Sending prayers and pixiedust your way!! God Bless!

Thanks melomouse :) I did move it once I realized that I should have put it there first. DS also as Aspergers's. He loves to travel we have taken many long road trips. He loves to eat out but by day 3 he just wants roast chicken, broc. and patsa. Or something like that.

Have a great day.
Bon

Not sure what my "mommy food" your son wants but maybe you could cook and freeze some before you go and keep them cold/frozzen in a cooler with Ice/Ice Packs. Then Micro them in the food court.

Freezer wouldnt work for him. He dosent like that. But thats a great idea for others. :thumbsup2
