Hi again! Another question my family wanted me to ask: With the DP, can you get a separate check for the food gratuity and another for the alcohol & its gratuity?

About 1/2 of us don't drink and the other 1/2 do (not including the kids who don't drink @ all :) ). We've agreed to just divide the gratuity by the total number (2 kids = 1 adult) and pay that way. EXCEPT that the alcohol makes the bill needing to be paid above & beyond the DP a lot more than just gratuity. If we could just get the alcohol on a separate bill those who drank could figure out their portion and the gratuity associated to that... Any other ideas would be very welcome!

You will automatically get a separate check for anything that is off-plan.

If I understand you correctly your group includes adults that would not normally share expenses but figured splitting the check would be the simplest solution to enjoying meals together. I would suggest just requesting separate checks for each family or individual paying unit. You can book your ADRs as a total number and still pay by different methods. If you like to share appetizers or sides then just have one party treat at one meal and another at the next meal etc.

This is perfect & exactly what I was hoping to hear!!!!

Normally we would do that, but we are travelling with 10 of us & I was told they combine checks for parties of 8 or more. :confused3 With the extra cost being split out over & above the dining plan, I think we should be able to quickly do some "close-enough" math. After all, we are family and us "adult-kids" still owe our parents a lot!

In the 2 years we have used the dining plan I have never recieved a seperate check of OFF-Dining plan items. When we order alcohol with our meal, it comes on one check, they take the check and Kttwc back subtract the credits for the meal and list the total for the other items and tip.

Now I am sure you can ask for it seperated. But ours always comes together.

You can then ask for the check to be separated. Back when I did the plan you got a separate check for the booze. I haven't done a dining plan with TS in two years.

We were a party of 13. They will split your party however you want. When taking orders we just pointed out the groupings of people. Because we were a large party gratuity was auto added to each bill. It made it so easy. I was appreciative of the separate bills because I order a few glasses of wine with dinner and didn't need my entire family knowing how much my bill was. :rotfl2:

Just make sure to tell the server when he/she takes your order -- they will give separate tickets. In a party over 6, each family's bill will automatically be assessed 18% based on that family's ticket (not based on the whole table's total) So if Family A orders $100 covered by the dining plan (no alcohol, no extra food like apps, etc.) then Family A will be presented with a bill for $18 (to cover the auto gratuity on their food bill of $100.) Family A will need to pay $18 cash or credit after the dining plan covers the food.

Then if Family B order the same meals for $100, also covered by the dining plan but then also orders $20 worth of alcohol, Family B will be presented with a bill for $20 plus tax to cover the alcohol PLUS $21.60 gratuity (higher gratuity than Family A's because Family B's tip is based on the total of Family B's food & alcohol - which is $120) Family B will need to pay about $43 to cover the alcohol, tax on the alcohol & tip on food & alcohol.

The servers can split out the bills no matter how many people are in the group (in fact, they HAVE to split the bills when the dining plan is involved, because you can't use your dining plan to pay someone else's bill...can only pay for the people in your room.) This is not a problem - the servers do it all the time. To make it easiest, though, tell them up front when they're actually taking the orders. :thumbsup2
