So many restaurants and so little time!!
Just got back, so I thought that I would give my opinion on some of the restaurants we (my hubby and I) ate at in the Disney area.
7/12 - NBA City in Citywalk. This is a place to get appetizers or sandwiches. My hubby and I did not order main dishes. We had the plain cheese pizza and the chicken quesadillas. The pizza was average at best, but the quesadillas were quite good IMHO. The drinks here were very nice.
Stopped in Pat O'Brien's to get a few drinks before dinner. We honeymooned in N'awlins and felt as if we were transported to the French Quarter (and I don't mean Port Orleans either). This is an exact replica of the Pat O'Brien's in NO. Still the same Hurricane!! Yum!!
Emeril's in Citywalk. It was a fine restaurant as most Emeril's are. Having eaten at his places in New Orleans and Vegas, I felt that this was OK. I had the quail and my husband had the salmon. Both were very good, but I felt that the other Emeril restaurants that we have been to were more creative.
Finished the evening at the Latin Quarter for a couple of drinks. Before I go any further, I know it sounds like we drink alot. Not true. Only on vacation and usually the first night. It's just that all of these places have neat signature drinks to try. I'm a sucker for that. Anyway, great margaritas.
7/13 - Grabbed a turkey leg in Animal Kingdom for lunch. Not bad and a decent value compared to other counter service food at Disney.
It was our anniversary (2nd) and so we went to Jiko. Very nice in decor and service quality. We started with the Tastes of Africa - flatbread with dips: Wonderful dips!! i loved the pesto and the olive hummus. My husband chose my dinner and chose his. He ordered for me the monkfish which was very good. I ordered for him the roasted pork. He said that he liked it. Funny enough, we both wanted a different entree, but were very happy with what we had (he - the filet mignon and I- the shrimp. It leaves us something to try the next time). Jiko was very sweet by giving us our dessert which was a pistachio creme brulee with a chocolate bottom. Fantastic!! This gave us a devious idea, which you will read about. The South African wine was great and fairly reasonable.
7/14 - Spent the day outside of the parks in Clearwater. Beautiful beach! Ate at Crabby Bill's which was OK for seafood.
Portobello Yacht Club - Went to Downtown Disney to explore. had no problem getting in without a PS. Even told them it was our anniversary (See the devious plan - I know that we are terrible people, but there is a catch. We don't get to chose our desserts) and they accomodated us. Living near South Philadelphia, we are spoiled by truly fabulous, authentic Italian food of both South and North varieties. Portobello could be in competition with any place in So. Philly for it's minestrone soup. The entress were fine, but not as good as the places we've been in South Philly. I had a shrimp and scallops dish that was very good, but I would have cooked the risotto a little longer. My husband had the seared tuna (a little too seared, but good). They gave us a phenominal dessert! It was a 3 layered chocolate cake with a chocolate grenache and toffee pieces. So good!!!
Part 2 - Columbia's in Celebration, Habour House (counter service in MK), Le Cellier (Epcot), and Todd English's BlueZoo at the Dolphin.
