I'm trying incredibly hard to get by with only carry-on. We're only going for 4 days, so you wouldn't think it would be a problem, but...

I bought a pack of 44 Crystal Lite Drink Mix packets for the kids. I had intended to put them in checked luggage until I found out it would be $30 round-trip for 1 bag. Ouch.

They're in those foil-type packets in the original sealed plastic container. Will I have a problem getting them through security?

Probably a stupid question, but I (obviously) don't fly often.

I won't say there are no stupid questions, but there are very few. This is not a stupid question :).

You're fine. No problem with powdered drink mix, the machines that scan your luggage can see through the foil.

As Kay stated its more about the liquids than powder.

Drink mixes and food generally are not a problem. The TSA's website states what food cannot be carried through security--such as yogart and PB and other liquid type foods. When we head to Disney, I always carry a bag of snacks for in the park, drink mixes, and bagels for breakfast. It's saves some money while on vacation.

This isn't quite true. If these items are 3 oz or less, they can go in the 3-1-1 bag. And food for infants may also be carried through.

It isn't 'food' that is the issue. It is the consistency. You can bring a peanut butter sandwich through security, but you can't bring a regular jar of peanut butter through. The rule of thumb is that if the contents will hold their shape, without the container, then it's good to go. For instance.....stick deodorant, chapstick. But, not roll on deodorant or lip gloss.

Powders are no issue.
