What are the food options at SSR.
I read alot about dining at DD resturants.
Are there any resturant directly on site?

within the confines of the Saratoga complex.
Just looking for a cup of coffee or a sandwich?

Do they serve food and drinks by pool for example.

The pool serves drinks. There is the Artist Palette which is a close walk from the pool, you can get sandwiches, salads, wraps, pizza, coffee, soda , etc.

There is also the Turf Club next to the AP they have other hot foods, equally as close to the main pool.

Paslea is correct.

Artist Palette serves different family style meals every day and they also serve breakfast.

There is also a refillable mug station by the pool (self serve) for cold drinks. The Turf Club currently serves gourmet style burgers, buffalo chicken tenders, a salmon burger, kids meals, a fruit and cheese plate, and an awesome list of drinks, many from DTD establishments.

The new restaurant should be completed by summer.

HTH!

Am I the only one who thinks they should just expand the food court to be comparable to the one at POR and skip the Turf Club expansion? That would make more sense to me, rather than making another sit down restaraunt when the DTD ones are so close by.

As other posters have already said, there is food available onsite. But we'd much rather trek over to DTD for better food and more selection. Let's just say DH and I were not impressed at all with the the sandwiches or child's meal we got at AP. For the price we paid we expected better. On the other hand, we quite enjoyed Earl of Sandwich as well as Fulton's Crab House and other DTD restaurants.

Do you have any details about the restaurant?
When? Where? What type of menu? Size?

Although I've never stayed at SSR, I do like it. The only complaint I would have as an SSR owner would be the lack of a formal table service restaurant. :smokin:

We have eaten 3x now at Artists Palette and have had: flatbread pizza (ok), Chicken Ceasar Salad (good but pricey) and Chicken fingers and chips - (good). Our only complaint is it took a good 20 minutes or more each time to get our food!
After you place your order they give you a number and call out when it is ready. We were poolside on our last day and DH ordered 2 items, 1 order of chicken fingers and 1 flatbread pizza and we didn't see him for over 30 minutes! This was in the middle of the day - not a prime lunch or dinner time slot! We like to walk over to DTD to Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich at night for dinner!

They serve drinks poolside from a very small bar area. Way to small for a resort this size. If 5 people are up there you are elbowing each other for room. No food is served poolside which means someone will have to walk up the stairs dripping wet inside to AP for lunch. These 2 things are both poor planning with this resort. What kind of resort doesn't at least have poolside dining? This I can't understand or get over. It is a deal breaker for us. Even if you go in to get food there is maybe 3 or 4 tables near the pool. We don't like being forced into going inside during lunch.

One of the major complaints that DVC members, including many owners there, have about SSR is the lack of a good restaurant. Disney has said themselves they thought the DDD options would be fine but their feedback from members has told them they were wrong. SSR is a nice resort but it needs a few things to keep it up to par with other DVC resorts as it grows. IMO, these include a second large theme pool and a full service family restaurant of some type. There were a number of other opportunities that DVC had to really set SSR apart but decisions were made and those options have past.

I've posted in the past that what I think would be a great option would be something like at VB with a family restaurant plus a fine dining option that shared a kitchen and staff. Maybe even something for members only or with a membership similar to a country club. Or possibly one of those gourmet places where you can eat in or buy prepared food and cook it in the villa.

AP sounds a lot like Roaring Forks before it was remodeled at WL. Even thought it was changed, it is too small for the number of guests.

I own at SSR, but have not stayed there yet. I am hoping that things will improve with time. I don't feel like trecking over to DTD to eat with toddlers. When we were at WDW last week, we drove into SSR and it is going to be a HUGE place. I doubt that one pool will serve all of the members when it is completed.

Well, we will just take the wait and see approach.

They are now giving out those "beepers" that buzz when your food is ready. I just got back the 9th of June. My experience was that the 3 times I ate there I didn't even get my meal paid for before my "beeper" was going off. Waiting in line to order was a bit longer than actually waiting for the food. We're going back in 2 weeks. Being that it's further into the summer, I'll be checking to see if that will make a difference in service.

I will say this about AP.

It took us time to get our food also, but our food was made fresh. Even our chicken strips and most definitely the flat breads were made to order.

I don't mind waiting for fresh food.

Dh liked the chili and that never took long as it was prepared. I guess it depends on what you order, but our food was always hot and fresh.

AP is a good source of food prepared when you order it as opposed to stored under a heat lamp. The selections vary by day but generally include 3 adult options, 2 kid options, and salads -- it is a step above a food court in terms of quality IMHO. Additionally, the prepackaged food is available in the market area if nothing suits your fancy.

The Turf Club is a good source of high-quality finger food/bar food....good for a light dinner. The service is pleasant and the atmosphere relaxing. We look forward to the sit-down dinner option as travelling over to DTD is not always an option when travelling with DD6.

IMHO you can eat well at SSR for about 3 days before boredom would set in.

Bon appetite (sp?).

I want to add that even the Chicken Caesar Salad is prepared fresh. They used to have them in the case, but decided they got too soggy, so now the salad is prepared when you order it.
The Chicken is grilled to order also and served warm/hot.
Their salad is one of my favorites!

AP is definitely not a fast food restaurant. I had questions about one of their daily specials, and the Chef came out! LOL!!

Try the Breakfast Flatbread, it was my Ds's favorite!

We loved the breakfast at AP but when we where there in May I had a great hamburger and dw had hot wings in the Turf Club that was awesome . :cool1:
