food and renting lockers

We always eat packed lunches although unlike at Disneyland where we got lockers daily, at DisneyWorld last year we kept the cooler in the car and ate in the car each day... We had AAA diamond parking so it wasn't much farther than the lockers to go back to the car and meant we didn't have to pay for a locker.

I wouldn't worry too much about Mayo in your sandwiches. Contrary to popular belief mayo isnt a leading cause of food poisioning.... Besides the ice packs kept our cooler bag ( soft sided) cold even in a hot september weather trunk. http://www.chow.com/food-news/54481/will-mayonnaise-give-me-food-poisoning/

We ate left overs a lot to stretch the budget even farther - and my family hates PB & J

We would order an extra pizza the night before and have cold pizza. We would buy 2 hot chickens have one for dinner and break up the other to have on buns with lettuce and cheese (and yes mayo) the next day.

We ate dinner at the house 'most' nights. But we also came back for lunch one day then packed dinner to eat in the park that night (MNSSHP - we had sandwiches while watching the parade, and yes at Magic Kingdom we did get a locker)

It's really not the PITA that people make it out to be, in fact even with going back to the car it seems we took no longer than lining up to pay and sitting and eating in a resturaunt - which we did at Universal Studios, and the lines weren't even very long.

For what it's worth my kids (teenagers) never complain about cold sandwiches in a hot car (we did run the A/C) because it sure beats not being in Disney at all, not trying to sound self ritious, it just really wouldn't occur to them to complain. Going any way but ultra low budget just isnt an option for us.

All i wanted to know is what food to stay clear of its a nice debate though ...:goodvibes...... still planning a budget wise trip its kinda of fun seeing how much i can save like I said always have done Disney at a value and used the free dinning so i am on my own this trip... thanks all:wave2:

I think a cooler will be just fine in the locker. We always bring a softside cooler with us, filled with water, sandwiches, chips etc. - but we hang it off the back of our stroller and it goes everywhere we go. We always go in early June, and we've never had an issue with the food spoiling, or getting hot, and the stroller is not always parked in a shady spot.

We always eat a light breakfast in the room before we hit the parks, eat the lunch we packed, and then eat a QS meal for dinner. It saves a bundle of money! For seven adults, I think the price of renting the locker still puts you way ahead.. Have a great trip!

Getting back to the lockers at MK will be really easy, just hop the train! No need to walk it! The other parks aren't so easy. At Epcot you're going to need to go back and eat before hitting Future World.

I'd pack individual lunches in insulated lunch bags (borrow from friend's kids if you need to) and toss them into string backpacks. Let each carry his own. However, you can also put a cooler in the locker and set each person up with food they can carry easily like PB sandwiches, apples, cookies, trail mix, crackers, M&M's. We've carried Earl of Sandwich subs/wraps. They are Disney food, a real deal at $6.50 per sub, and you could pack them all into a small soft sided cooler or insulated back pack. It's a nice compromise between Disney food and DIY. Don't forget Disney counter service will give you ice water for free.
