We are booked on the Italy ABD for summer 2017. Has anyone that has been on this one gone with someone that has a peanut and treenut food allergy?
DS has the allergy and just wanted to know how well it was handled. We do carry Epi-pens in the off chance something would happen and fortunately it's only when he ingests that he has a reaction. However, cashews and pistachios are among the worst for him and I know pistachios are used frequently in sweets.
I just want to prepare him for what he may have to pass on during the trip as well as have a good alternative for him during those times.

I haven't traveled with anyone with that specific allergy, but I have food sensitivities and we had a family with a daughter who had Celiac's disease on one of my ABDs and another trip with someone allergic to wine. The ABD Guides are very, very vigilant about that sort of thing. Have a discussion with the vacationistas at ABD so they can give your Adventure Guides a heads' up, and have a discussion with the Guides when you get there. They always seem to arrange great alternatives for folks with food issues. I know that's a rough one, but if anyone can handle it, it's ABD.

We had done BSM last summer and it as really good. The girls made sure he had something to eat. Just being out of the country and a potential language barrier is the stressful part. We love Disney and how vigilant they are when it comes to allergies.

Thanks!

That's why you have Adventure Guides! :thumbsup2

They'll deal with it all. I was amazed at how all the places on our Med Cruise add-on knew what Gluten-free was, and accommodated that little girl. They were more at ease with that than me not being able to eat tomatoes!

Obviously, things can happen no matter how vigilant you are, but sounds like you're prepared for that, just in case.

ABD does a great job with allergies.

I would recommend letting ABD (or your agent) know of this allergy, but I would also recommend discussing this with your Guides upon arrival.

Hi kris10399--our son has a tree nut allergy (cashews and hazelnuts are his triggers). We have been on 5 ABD's and have never had a problem. The guides have always been on top of it with restaurants and in many cases they call ahead and organize an alternative for desert (lots of hazelnuts are used in chocolate in Europe). We have always found that the guides know about the allergy even before we approach them. Hope this helps.

On my Ireland and London/Paris ABDs, there were a couple young kids with serious nut allergies. They were fine.

Just make sure any extras sent to you are allergen free too. In Ireland, the guides left us chocolate shamrocks in our rooms....which did not comply with the poor allergic child's diet. He was none too happy.
