Folks who are so excited about VGF2

The “concierge like” check in at the lobby of vgf is the best. I wonder how the ground floor of Big Pine Key will be setup, and will it have check in desks. Probably not, but a penguins fountain perhaps?
I would think VGF2 will check in at the main lobby. My daughter loves the sitting area where they play the vintage Disney cartoons in VGF lobby. We haven't stay there since Sept 2019 so she may have outgrown it for this September.

This is an interesting thread. i get the argument of kitchenette vs no kitchenette and that being a major issue for some, a deal breaker even. I 100% get that as a reason to neither buy nor stay at gfv2

location though, that’s a head scratcher. We are talking about the same resort and the two buildings being a five min leisurely walk away from each other.

if we were talking one building being near Epcot and the other by mk, yes location would be a factor but this is a debate over couple hundred yards

given we walk full marathons in the park, is location of the two building even a datapoint worth discussing?

You are asking if location within a resort, proximity to the main building, restaurants, quick service, coffee etc matters to people. Generally yes. It’s not a concern for the number of steps as you describe it, but convenience. Presumably this is the reason for the name “resort studios” because they are more internal to the resort, vs VGF1 sitting a bit away.

One location at a Disney hotel that wouldn't be my first choice to return to? GF outer building with no walkways to the main building. A total pain when it as raining which of course isn't exactly uncommon in FL.

I used google maps to measure the distance from gf main building entrance to pine key main building entrance. Note there is a side door from pine key that further reduces the distance to walk

its 300 feet of outside uncovered walking door to door

to put that into relative terms, from the point of getting from Main Street confectionary and Casey’s corner, that distance is about 350 feet

Of course with DVC one can reheat some leftovers in their microwave from dinner the night before and not need to run out to the main building in the rain to get hot food.

Oh wait........

The one thing I’ll add is the VGF2 should make it much easier for those with SAP like me to book studios at 7 months. I originally thought to buy VGF2 myself to “guarantee” mk studio but decided to wait and see how availability plays out. Also with the lack of ap and diminishing benefits I don’t feel I need more points now. If I do need points in future I feel VGF2 will crash resale prices so I will go that route over giving more money to Disney.

We can debate what this does to availability at VGF1 but I personally would upset if I was owner as I think this change will be negative for majority of current owners when it could have been a positive if disney didn’t allow greed to dominate decisions.

I agree with you. I would be upset about this new project if I was a VG1 owner. I bet this will put a significant amount of pressure on the existing studios, to the point where you will need to own if you want a chance at getting the deluxe studio at 11 months. I suspect there will be ample resort studios available, similar to Polynesian. A broker told me that they believe resale will take a hit, so I’m with you on waiting to purchase. I’m seeing resale at $190-$200 a point , which I think will be wayyyy overpriced when pricing is announced this week.

Not only because of pricing..assuming it’s where I’m feeling it will be..but because it will be back in active sales so no more ROFR.

As soon as lower priced ones pass, more buyers will try for lower prices!

What is all the hoopla over the studios? I can't find anything anywhere aside from some of them will have 2 queens like OKW? Looks like it is going to have studios, 1BR, 2 BR and GV and yet I saw one site that said 200 studios. WTH is going on?

VGF2 will only be "resort studios". But they will be part of VGF's condo association just like Kidani is part of AKV's association. Their contracts will have the same expiration as VGF. Members who buy contracts when VGF2 goes on sale will be able to use their points to reserve deluxe studios, 1BR, 2BR or GVs in the VGF1 building but no deluxe studios, 1BR, 2BR or GVs are being added. There will still be only 47 deluxe studios and 47 1BR villas that form 2BR lock offs, 47 dedicated 2BR villas and 6 GVs.

There will be 200 of these resort studios in the Big Pine Key building. They will have 2 queen beds and a single fold-down bed. No kitchenette. Beverage coolers instead of mini fridges. No split bathroom. They will be converted hotel rooms with the same amenities that you would expect in a hotel room.

So BPK will be nothing but these 'resort studios?' Is that what you're saying, because the others sound like what's already at GFV1.

Correct. Resort studios only and they cost the same as the deluxe studios.

At OKW, you do have the two beds but you also have the kitchenette with microwave and mini fridge, so it’s a bit different.

Basically hotel rooms. Some are worried that the fact that they don’t have those things and no split bath like the current deluxe studios, it will make those even harder to book.

I’m not buying into VGF2, but I’m excited about the new rooms. So they lack a microwave and a beverage cooler. I think for most that won’t be a big issue. We all are still getting a really nice room in a beautiful resort. Honesty, I feel like the resort studios look nicer than several of the deluxe studios at some of the other resorts. Trade offs for sure, but I understand why Disney is going this route. If you build it, they will come! Or should I say, if you refresh it??

Now I get it. 1.5 million points ADDITIONAL competing for the same rooms at VGF1. Welcome to the devaluation of VGF1 owners' points. Wow. Well, at least we don't have to fight at the 7 month window anymore. It was hardly worth the fight now for non-owners. Now there's going to be nothing to fight over.

And I understand the AKK v. AKV comparison. It's all part of the same condominium association. But the comparison stops there. Most of us love Kidani, and it has all the amenities of AKV without the hustle and bustle of a 5 star hotel that's only a 5 minute walk away. Home on the savannah v. a 5 star resort hotel on a savannah. Not nearly the same analogy to GFV, though I don't think that was the point people were trying to make either.
