Flying with Kids

That doesn't make sense. As already stated, no child under 18 needs id for a domestic flight, unless they are an under age 2 lap baby. What was the reason they asked for id? And who asked, a Southwest agent or TSA?

What part doesn't make sense? The Southwest Agent asked to see the Birth Certificate and I showed it to them. Clearly, it sounds like most people are not asked but when I flew on September 25th, I was asked.

The part where you were asked to show a birth certificate for a 4 year old doesn't make sense. This was not required unless you were trying to fly a 4 year old as a lap baby(?) That is the only reason a Southwest agent should have asked for a birth certificate.

I would have refused. Plus, I wouldn't have been carrying the BC anyway.

I flew with DD's 15 year old friend and DD last year. Three different last names, one kid that wasn't mine. The TSA agent was more interested in talking up Disney to the girls than to ask for paperwork they don't legally need.

And that is exactly how it should have worked! No ids needed.

Yup. We fly with our foster kids. Never had a problem and there are multiple last names and only our biological daughter looks anything like us.

did the pp purchase a child fare? You may he required to show proof in that circumstance
