flying with kids--motion sickness, ear problems?

OK, I have benedryl in liquid form. (I didn't find child kind of the pseudaphedrine ) The bottle is 4 oz! I don't want to give it to her 3 hours before we fly. It wil lbe wearing off before the flight is over. Can that OTC med be taken in your carry on? She is only 2. She doesn't do pills or chewables.

Medications of any kind are exempt from the 3.4 oz carryon limit. Just put it in a separate baggie (any size) marked "medications" and put it in the bin next to your toiletries baggie. It will go through with no problem. (A baggie isn't required in this situation, but you have to "declare" the medications and take them out of your carryon to show TSA; using a separate baggie makes that easier.) Don't forget something to administer it with -- I like to use a med syringe.

BTW, you wouldn't find psuedoephedrine liquid on the open shelves, because even though you can't make meth with the liquid, it still falls under the behind-the-counter law. You would need to ask the pharmacist and sign for it. If your pharmacy doesn't have it in stock, they can definitely order it from their warehouse given a couple of days notice.

BTW: While earplanes are usually remarkably effective, they only work if the child will allow them into her ears. Mine won't. I personally don't like them, either; I find them painful to use.

I, as well as my 2 DD'S, get motion sick very easy. I use to use Dramamine, but found it "zonked" us out too much. I now use Bonine, which is chewable, and it doesn't make us groggy. I used it on a cruise and am planning on doing so again in Nov. You can find it near the Dramamine in the store.

Also, gingersnaps are a great idea, as the ginger helps settle an upset tummy! (And they are crunchy & delicious!)
