Hi! We'll be flying Airtran later this month, and we plan on bringing a carry on for each of us (myself, DH and DSx2). We'll also be gate checking a stroller. Does the stroller count as one of the carry ons? Also, would we be allowed to take a backpack as a personal item in addition to our 4 carry on pieces? Thank you for any info!

When we flew them in 2009 we were each able to bring a carry on bag, plus a personal item each, and we gate checked the stroller, which didn't count against any of our carry on allowances.

I don't know of any US airline which counts a stroller or a car seat against your baggage allowance, whether gate checked or checked at the check-in counter.

Do you have paid seats for your kids? If they are lap children then they don't get a carryon allowance. The stroller and car seats are still free, but unpaid lap children do not get a free carryon for the lap child.

Also consider how you are going to handle four rolling pieces of luggage, a stroller and two kids. Assuming kiddos are riding in the stroller and Mom is pushing the buggy is Dad, now pack mule, trying to roll 4 bags? :confused3
