Hello my friends,

Had to come here to vent this morning. We are supposed to leave in 11 days and now I don't even want to go anymore.:confused3 I go to renew my licence and then after I receive it: oh you may have difficulty flying if you don't get the new one it time. What!?!?!? Okay I already have to take anxiety meds to be the plane in the first place. I leave the DMV and called my husband after have an anxiety attack and he suggested I call the TSA. After speaking to someone on the 1-800 no. they said I would be able to fly after have a secondary screening. Okay that did if for me, I called my husband and told him I'm not going forget this! So anyone who is going on vacation and their license is going to expire make sure you get in renewed in plenty of time. Hopefully it will come next week so I don't have to disappoint my 4 year old and I'm sure my husband. :( Thanks for letting me vent everyone!)

Last year I had the same issue...flying with a paper license. I had no problems flying out of Providence with it but had to go through 2 screenings leaving Orlando. Not to worry it was not torture just a slight nuisance. Go and have fun!!
Good Luck :thumbsup2

You still have time to get a passport on an expidited basis. If you go to the pasport office in Boston with all of your documentation you can get it issued that day.

But this option is going to cost you a LOT.

Just arrive early. It will be fine. Secondary screening is NO big deal and the truth is you might have been chosen anyway. It should not scare you from flying.

Do you still have your old license? If so I would bring that with me along with the paper license.

Didn't you get to keep your old license? In

Minnesota, they just cut the corner off your old license and return it to you. You still need to keep the paper to prove you renewed until you get the new license, but you still have a government issued photo ID to use. Have traveled under those conditions without a problem.

Guess the states have different procedures.

Hi,

All i have is my license. Thanks for all the advice. If my license doesn't come in time I just may take a later flight down and then join my family.

They mail you your license in MA? In NJ we get it right at the Dmv.. thats if you have a zillion different original copies off all of the things they now ask for.

Well, I have learned something new. I never knew you didn't get your license right away when you renew in some states.

In my state, we go to the DMV, take the vision test, renew, get our picture taken and leave with our new license.

You'd be willing to take a separate flight altogether for what will only amount to 3 minutes' extra time as you go through security? Don't be silly and don't stress over it. Contrary to some stories you read, you can get through security just fine. Bring the paper license, bring your old license (if they returned it to you) and join your family. I'm sure your husband has his ID and your child doesn't even need one.

Deep breath. Now exhale. You'll have a much nicer flight sitting with your family, won't you?

Ooh! Pick me! Pick me!!!!

I live really close to the OP, and renewed my license online late last year. I got a confirmation e-mail telling me to carry that until my new license showed up.

Tinkerbells Mom - keep your flight arrangements, bring both your expired license (for identification) and your paper license (for validity) to the airport. And keep in mind, your new license really COULD show up before you go!

UPDATE: Driver's license has arrived! I can finally relax! Thanks everyone. My family will all be getting passports when we got home as back up. I think eventually we will need them anyway. Four more days to DisneyWorld!

Happy for you - good idea re the passports.

Thanks for letting us share your happy ending, LOL!

Glad you got your license. NY also issues your new license on the spot at the DMV.
