hey everyone

just a quick question about flying, i have never flew virgin so the question is when do we book the childrens meals for my boys 6 and 12, will my 12 year old have an adult or childs meal???

If buying an adult seat (12+) they get an adult meal as far as I know, just logged into my booking and no child option for any of us.

You can request it though if you phone I believe. I had to ring them to add my DD's special meal.

Remember that kids under 12 do not automatically get a child's meal - you have to order it for them

Good luck with getting a kids meal. Our tavel agent booked them, I double checked my Virgin account and still when you board they deny you have them booked.

I had that with a GF meal for my DD, but you do have to ring them a few days before to confrim special meal requests - or apparently they drop off the system

i booked with a travel agent (my mum ) and even though my ds was a child on the booking i had to go onto virgin atlantics website and request a childs meal
i re -checked it just before i did online check in and he got one
but definately doesnt hurt to check a few days before - having said that we ended up swapping our food *** he wanted my dinner instead and i got dino pasta lol

We always seem to struggle to get childrens meals, there booking system does seem to be a little flawed somewhere.
However if your 12 (or for that even the 6 yo) is not a fussy eater then they would do just as well with the adult meals. The childrens meals can be very hit and miss on quality and almost non existant in flavour. My dd5 now usually eats off the adult menu.

We flew with Virgin last summer to Kenya. On the return leg there were problems with requested meals due to security issues in Kenya. No children's meals were available. I told them my daughter would not eat what was being offered with the adult meals. They offered to put a jacket potato on for her which she loved. Very helpful. We're flying with Virign again in October to Disney.

I booked children's meals online about 14 days before we flew, they got them no problem, the only thing was that there wasn't really anything that they would like, I think my DS ate the little bag of Haribo and that was about it!

I always take food for on the plane now. We may pick around at the meals they serve but especially with kids, there is the chance they won't touch the inflight meal. Some snack bars and fruit is usually fine to supplement the meals for us (just remember to leave any fruit on the plane when you get off in the US).

We either take a packed meal or eat in the airports when flying Virgin, not been with them for almost 3 years so they might have improved. I even tried their veggie option once (mushroom rissotto) can't descibe how bad it was.
As we are on the later flight(1:30pm?) in August we will probably have a proper meal in the airport. Coming home we usually eat at the airport BK.
