Flying to Cancun

I have 2 questions. I know one of them was asked not long ago, but I can't find it, so please forgive me


#1-- What to expect once I land, and how long?


#2-- I will fly into Cancun by myself to meet family, who will arrive about an hour or so later. Is there a place to wait, before going thru the checks. I thought it might be easier to wait, and all go thru together.

#2-- I will fly into Cancun by myself to meet family, who will arrive about an hour or so later. Is there a place to wait, before going thru the checks. I thought it might be easier to wait, and all go thru together.

You'll have to get through immigration first - fill your forms out on the plane. It can be crazy depending on the day you arrive. They now have a new terminal so it should be better. Once you leave immigration, you'll have to wait for your bags. Make sure you keep your claim ticket - they typically won't let you take a bag unless it matches your claim ticket. After you get your bag, you'll go to customs - they send your bag through a scanner and you have to press a button - green light go, red light means they search your bag by hand. After you get through immigration, DO NOT talk to anyone or make any contact - they are all trying to sell you something. DO NOT let anyone touch your bags either.

Meeting family - are you both arriving in the same terminal? You better check. There aren't really any good meeting places. You could hang out near the baggage claim so you all go through immigration together. Otherwise, there are some benches outside and there is a bar outside where you can meet.

When you land they will take you to the check station where they will check your passport and then send you through a line to get your baggage checked. Assuming they are using the same system there is a stop light and when it turns green you move forward. Sometimes they check your bag, sometimes not. It can take 10 minutes or 2 hours depending on how many planes are landing at that time. There really isn't a place to wait before the checks though and I doubt they would let you hang around for an hour anyway.
