Flying to aulani

Can I throw another idea in here? Is the sequence of Disneyland followed by Aulani set in stone? For me, the flight home has always been worse than the flight there (we fly nonstop from/to Texas both ways) because I simply can’t sleep on planes. Next time we go, I truly want to spend 2-3 days in Anaheim after Hawaii, not before.

Helps reduce the depression of returning home.

Hawaiian is a nicer experience, and SNA is way easier to get to and get through than LAX. But I would do either airline or airport if the price is right.

We're flying out mid-week in August. I ended up booking Hawaiian out of Long Beach. The cost for the three of us to upgrade to first after factoring what the cost was to include bags was only $50 extra each. Totally worth it for us to have plusher seats for the flight. For reference, the first class out of Long Beach are just regular domestic type first class seats and not the "lay down" seats. Mostly, I'm looking forward to relaxing as it's a 7:30AM flight, then having a nice glass of POG to celebrate as we near the island.
I love when First is about the same as baggage costs anyway. Makes the debate to upgrade much easier.

Yes. The real fellas know that jet lag flying East is orders of magnitude worse than flying West.

9:30 from Boston, landing in Honolulu at 2:30 is SO easy.

There is no perfect route here. We fly from HI to DLR all the time and out of all the options, we prefer Hawaiian Airlines to LAX. The biggest reason is the price and aircraft type. Yes, we hate LAX, but the HNL-LAX route has the most flights so it's the cheapest and has a wide range of departure/arrival times. Second reason is that the HNL-LAX Hawaiian flight is the only option that flies the wide-body A330. The flight to LGB is the A321, which I hate. The only airline that flies non-stop between SNA and HNL is United, and they too only fly the skinny 737. If you can stomach the mess that is LAX, I recommend Hawaiian.

The only issue is that you wake up super early, but on vacation you can use that to your advantage. Beat the crowds to all the big tourist spots.

This! Aulani needs the pools to be open earlier and stay open later.
I'm a local without any jetlag and I still wake up at 4:30 when I stay there. I wish all the time I could just go down to the infinity hot tub with my refillable coffee mug while my kids are still sleeping. I'd pay extra for that!
