Has anyone flown on Thanksgiving Day?? I am blacked out of flying on the Tuesday and Wednesday before via SW (using Rapid Rewards for this trip), so I'm thinking now we have to fly Thanksgiving Day or the day after.

I know the airports are crazy busy the day before, but how about the actual day of? :confused3

We flew on Thanksgiving Day 2003 and we had no issues with crowds. In fact the number of people in the airport seemed light. If you can get a morning flight then you can arrive in Orlando in time for turkey dinner. :flower:

We flew Thanksgiving day 2004 to WDW and it was fine. I would not describe it as empty at the airports. More like when we fly in early October.
I thought it was a nice alternative to the day before when it is absolutely insane.

You may want to call and check with SW because I was told that the 26-28 are blacked out too.

I wanted to use my RR credits, but we're leaving on the 26th and its set in stone.

Good luck! :earboy2:

It seems like Thanksgiving day seems to be ok, but how busy is Friday?

We flew Song out of Boston on Thanksgiving Day last year and it was great. The airport wasn't as busy as usual and we had an early flight so were in WDW by noon!!! And we got a good rate..right around $200, non-stop.

Thanksgiving crowds generally taper off sometime in the early afternoon on Thanksgiving day and start picking back up in the early afternoon the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Friday is pretty dead, hence lots of pre-cancellations.

My only concern is the airlines typically start their holiday cancellations Thanksgiving evening until Saturday morning. Be aware that what you book now, could be cancelled when the airlines pull down the schedule due to light crowds. (Just about every airline does it. It is an industry practice surrounding most major holidays)

yes...those dates are blacked out too, but we aren't flying home until the 29th or 30th. Thanks, though. :)

We have flown on both Thanksgiving day and the Friday after.

Both have been very doable and easy with kids.
