We will be crossing the border and flying out of Buffalo airport this May and it will be our first time doing this. Does anyone have any tips or tricks? I've looked at the map online and the airport seems fairly small and easy to navigate. Does anybody have any favorite places to grab a quick breakfast?

Don't get there overly early. There is no point. An hour to an hour half is plenty of time at BUF.

For breakfast, eat where there is a place open. Depending on when you get there, the food court isn't open. You will have 1 or 2 options at best. I recently flew at 800, and had 1 place open. Which is common.

There really aren't any tricks or special tips. It's probably one of the easiest airports to navigate.

We love love love Buffalo airport. We are about 30 minutes from the border so we leave with a 3 hour window. Our upcoming trip has a 5:15 pm flight, so we'll leave here at 2pm. That gives us a nice cushion for border traffic since it's a Friday evening, or if we are stopped. It's only happened once for a non-Disney trip but it delayed us an hour to go into customs so I like to have extra time.
Best case scenario, we sail right over and we're at the airport in under an hour. That gives us 2 hours to check our luggage and go through the security line and grab something to eat. Like the pp said, there will likely only be one or two places open if it's very early. Usually there is one right at the beginning of the long hallway that sells coffee and bagels etc and one down near the end. We love the one down at the end which is called "Which Wich" and it opens at 5a.m.
We grab a drink for the flight and something to eat and then usually sit on our laptops or tablets and charge them. There's plugs in the walls where you wait, right up against the windows. We make sure we have a full charge for the flight and eat our breakfast. Generally they start boarding right around when we finish eating.
It is a wonderful airport for ease of use and we've used it at least 20 times in the last 6 or 7 years. Peak times can be very congested to go through security. Our Christmas week flights had massive lines and sometimes first thing in the morning the security line can be long because they are just reopening for the day and can be moving the 5, 6, 7am flights through.

Normally though we are through security in about 10-15 minutes.
So I may be overly cautious with my time estimate but I would far prefer to sit and wait comfortably than be rushing in and find a line at the border or in security.:)

Just wanting to ask, I don't want to steal the thread. Just curious if you can tell me what Which wich has for breakfast. We are flying Jetblue the 1st of March at 8 am. We plan on getting into the airport around 6:15 am. We just need something easy for breakie, like a muffin, bagel, toast sort of thing. In relation to jetblue waiting area can we get to it. If I remember correctly, I believe it is right after the bathrooms on the left hand side, but we didn't fly from Buf last year. Thanks.

I tried to pull up the menu for you but it wouldn't work. They make oven baked sandwiches and the breakfast ones are things like egg and cheese or egg and bacon etc. So that's probably a little heavier than you were thinking. Right beside it is a coffee stand with muffins etc and I think it opens very early. It's at the far end of the hall.

There is a closer place, literally right beside the Jetblue area. It's the first shop on the left when you walk into that hallway. That has more selection and is things like coffee and fruit and granola and bagels etc. It would probably be your best bet.:)

ETA) I just looked it up. It's called the Coffee Beanery and it opens at 4:30 a.m.
You can see it on the map here.http://buffaloairport.com/TerminalMap.asp

Remember that you are able to take food through security, just not liquids - we just flew last month, and I took muffins fresh baked the day before at home for breakfast - you could even grab muffins/donuts at Timmies and put them in your backpack/carry on to enjoy - I find the airport food expensive, and we just try to grab a hot tea to share and a bottle of water/juice to take on the plane once we get through security. :thumbsup2

iluveeyore is right and there is a Tim Hortons just across from the airport so you may want to just grab that and go and then buy your drinks after you clear the security area. I always buy a water after security as I get so thirsty when I fly, dont really know why but I do!

That's a good tip too. For us vacation starts as soon as we walk into the airport and so does the spending:rolleyes1
I always end up thinking "We've already used how much?!" when we do our first cash count in the hotel room though.

Thanks for the tips about food! I was wondering what we were going to for breakfast since we have such an early flight! :)

I live in Buffalo and fly out BUF all the time. I'd agree with PP that the airport is fairly small. Id say 1-2 hours preflight is plenty. If you're looking for places to eat not in the airport for food, there is a Cracker Barrel and a Bob Evans both about a 5 minute drive from the airport. They also have an Achor Bar in the airport that serves breakfast but thats mediocre at best. There isn't much to do in the airport so bring something to entertain yourselves. If you have any more specific questions about Buffalo or the airport i'd be more than happy to help!

Mcdonalds across the street.

We love BUF!!! Super easy , nice and small. No tips or tricks needed.
Besides eat before or bring bagels or muffins or something with you as there is nothing to eat besides $12 breakfast platters and $8 Bagels. :)
