I've been trying to work out a schedule with my MIL, so that she can watch my kids while I go to a conference in Orlando.

9/11 would work as the best day for me to fly home. It's probably the safest day of the year now, but it still creeps me out.

Please- talk me out of being irrational!

yes, you are being irrational, but I can appreciate your apprehension. I'm thinking of flying of 11/11 and sort of feel even that is creepy.

While the date of 9/11 will always touch ours hearts and our nerves, we need to continue to live, love, remember and keep moving forward.

I have flown on 9/11 since THE 9/11 and I've had major surgery on 9/11 (scheduled) since then. The date has no particular fear factor for me.

We are flying on 9-11. I feel totally safe, or I would never put my family in danger. Its probably the safest day of the year to fly. security will be even tighter and I will not be complaining. Have fun, don't worry.

We are too. I never thought about it until just now:sad2:

I've flown on every September 11th since 2001 usually to/from/within the US, and was flying regularly just days after 9/11. I've taken trains on 7/7 and other days. I've been through many situations which I have decided are not appropriate to post here in order not to create more unrest amongst readers.

I know that it is different for Americans of my generation as 9/11 was the first really major terrorist attack for them, making it more difficult to adjust. But for many of us who grew up in the 1970's in the rest of the world, terrorism was a regular reality, and we learned not to let it impact our decisions to travel. (I am in no way minimizing 9/11, just trying to explain that I understand the impact it has on Americans who may fly that day)

One of my first memories of flying was sitting delayed on the tarmac at the old MUC in summer 1972. I'll let the reader determine the cause of that delay.

I am leaving for Dis on 9/11. It also happens to be my anniversary. I take it in stride. I wish it wasn't the most convenient date... however that's as far as it goes. It was the date we went with, & I won't dwell on it, or I'll drive myself nuts!

We were originally going to fly out Sept. 12th, but decided to go the night before, so we'll be leaving for MCO on Sept. 11th. At first I was like, whoa, but now I'm okay. That's probably why the fare was so cheap.

We will also be flying on 9/11. My DS thought I was nuts to book our trip to the World on that day, but I believe that the flight security for that date will be very thourough.

We're flying out of Detroit that day as well. I wasn't apprehensive at all booking it. It's a monumental day for all of us and really, I always think that if we stopped living our lives it would be letting them win. kwim? Move forward, move upward.

Thank you all, I knew you'd straighten me out ;)

How feel exactly - but I needed a little push, thanks.

I agree that of all days people will probably be a little more vigilant on that one. It looks like I may be crossing paths with many of you. I'll leave MCO in the evening of 9/11.

Oh bavaria, I'm so sorry, I know other parts of the world experienced terrorist attacks before we did and that was another heart breaking situation. I cannot even imagine being so close . . .

but as you all have said, we must not let it stop us from living and move on - and you're right. Thanks for setting a good example.

Honestly, you will be fine. Don't even think about it. You would board a subway or train on July 7th every year, wouldn't you? But somewhere there is a person worried about that and asking a similar question.

I may sound rather complacent, but it's just a matter of learning to worry about the things we can control, and not to worry about those we cannot.

I have been to many places in the world where people have had attacks, and just cannot let it worry me or stop my travel. In fact, I often volunteer for locations considered unstable, because I have learned not to let such things bother me.

Happy travels!

Thanks bavaria, I know - you're right and I'll be ok.

I really admire that :thumbsup2

7/7 is my DD's birthday and I've always associated it with happy things, although I know the London attack happened on that day. I'm sure there are people that stress about public transportation on that day. It truly is all in my head, so I'll get my head straight.

:goodvibes to all of you.

BTW, I didn't think when posting that I might stress someone else out about that day.

So, don't worry and listen to what was said in this thread. We'll all be travelling to/from one of the happiest places on earth!

I flew on THE 9/11 - one of the last flights before they closed the airport in Providence...where we were scheduled to land.

I flew home the following Monday - through the smoke of NYC and with 13 people on our aircraft.

I have flown 3 9/11's since and we just decided to take advantage of some GREAT castmember discounts for the Grand Californian and will be flying on 9/11.

I have slept on every flight....but I always sleep on flights.

If you cannot change your dates......try somehow to relax. Yes, it's a horrible memory for all of us. My DH was in the newsroom at ABC and worked for 43 hours straight....and watched the second jet fly into the building from the roof - live.....as I was in the air.

I believe the best way to defeat terror is to not allow them to alter our plans or way of life.

So try what I do......find your BEST red, white and blue outfit....put on an american flag pin, hold your head up high and stand tall. Go get on that jet and show the bad guys that they have not beaten you!

Oh my Mouseaholic, that had to be terrifying for him. Did you have any idea while in the air of what was going on?

I love that idea!:thumbsup2

My DH was in Canada and couldn't return to the US until the borders reopened. That was nerve wracking enough for me.

I refuse to let terrorists affect the way I live or to infect my life with fear. I have no problem with flying on 9/11...even during that infamous year, we had a Disney cruise scheduled not long after THE 9/11 and we decided not to cancel it for those reasons. I'll never forgot the non-existent lines/crowd at the airport and the military guards at the security checkpoints, complete with rifles. It was downright surreal! I would rather stand in a long line any day than go through a ghost town airport like that.

But it's over and done with, and although we can't prevent attacks 100 percent I know that the chance is still minimal. I wil fly on 9/11 or any other day, and no sick individuals who act out through violence will stop me.

We knew absolutely nothing in the air. I was told later from pilots that our pilots knew before we landed (because of the timeline).

Providence is a lovely little airport - one of my favorites because I enjoy visiting that pretty part of my territory. That day it was chaos.

I had to exchange my rental car the next day and the airport was deserted - very odd. I drove up and was met BEFORE I entered the airport by men in uniform with very big guns in their hands......aircraft parked all over the place. YIKES!

In the few days between Tuesday when I landed and Monday when I returned to the airport, air travel changed forever.

DH still has trouble talking about that day.....as I had a great deal of trouble watching the movie "Flight 94". He is a life-long New Yorker and they took it very personally. I can only imagine his horror as he watched it.

Yes, stand tall and proud everyone who flys on 911.

I too had the experience of going to the airport and having military people with guns stop us, pop the trunk, look the car over and all, before going on in.

Well, on a lighter note - I just bought my ticket. Going 9/5 to 9/11, flying back the evening of 9/11. Looking so forward to my trip!

Thanks y'all!
