We got $39 each way into Sanford in Orlando. Has anyone ever flown into that airport? Is it easy to get around?

We're also flying into this airport with the same rate for the first time. Couldn't pass up that rate - we weren't even planning a spring break trip until we saw the rate combined with this cold weather! Hope someone has experience with the airport. Any rental car company suggestions?

We flew into Sanford once, back in '01. It was a great experience. If you go to their website, you should be able to find car rental companies that are there. It is really easy to get around this airport...it's nice and compact!!! It's about an hour to WDW from there.

The airport is relatively small but features all the things you'd normally find in an airport of a large city. To make flying into Sanford cost-effective you need to rent a car (and would have rented a car too had you flown into MCO). Then the rental cost plus airfare makes it a GREAT deal. But if you're going to take a taxi or limo to Disney from Sanford then all your airfare savings just went out the window.

When you look out the window of the airport or from your airliner, be prepared to see some airline brand names you've never seen before. Most of the airlines operating there are from Europe.

I have Allegiant booked for May 27 - June 5 from Chattanooga. I decided on chattanooga because it was $50 less than out of Knoxville. We are about one hour from Knoxville and two hours from Chattanooga.
I have spoken to several people who have flown the just recently and they all had good experiences. So I'm looking foward to trying them out. You just cannot beat $39.

Sanford is a nice airport. It's easy to get around, and there's lots of rental car options. It wasn't a long drive from Kissimmee, either-all highway. We really liked it. We were delayed at Sanford on the way home (thunderstorms), and there was a nice little food stand near the gates with terrific chicken caesar salads. :) It was a very clean airport, too. Everyone I know who's flown Allegiant has been delayed, so bring some books or cards to pass the time.

When was your airfare posted? I'm waiting on Allegiant to post June rates for Portsmouth, NH to SFB. I'm hoping for fares like yours!!

Renting a car for the week usually cost more than the car service price from that airport. I have seen prices from $200.00 to $350.00 a week for moderate to SUV vehicles. Not sure what the cheapest would be but it is not much less than $180.00. I have also been told by passengers that the rental cost to using the vehicle at WDW is not worth the difference in the rates they could have got for the car.

A car service will charge somewhere between $180.00 and $230.00 round trip from Sanford. Taxi meters run a little bit more. It is a direct drive to Disney about 50 minutes, with a grocery stop, if you like. Transportation is free at Disney so you don't need to use a car there. You don't really blow all your airfare savings out the window using a car service. The convenience and time a car service provides over renting and trying to find your way around and down to WDW might be worth it to some people.

We're going to go w/ Alamo. They can be booked w/ the airfare. We got 3 R/T airfares and fullsize car from Sat-Sat for about $475. We live south of Nashville, and it is about 1 1/2 hrs for us to Chattanooga, but we're going to go over the night before we fly out and stay at one of the hotels there. Even with the cost of the extra night's hotel it is less expensive for us than flying into MCO. Delta and Southwest posted decent fares from Nashville earlier in the week, but the flight times weren't what we are looking for and some of the flights were not nonstop, as we like.

We're flying Allegiant Air out of Chattanooga on May 29th. We also got the $39 fare so the three of us are flying round trip for a total of $331.40. We rented a Dodge Caliber for 9 days from Dollar Car Rental at the Sanford Airport for $196. We're staying at a Quality Inn about a mile from Chattanooga's airport the night prior to our flight. The hotel offers free airport shuttle and parking so we don't have to pay for 9 days of parking at the airport. All this and it was still almost $300 cheaper than what I would have had to pay for our airfare on a major carrier flying into MCO and we now have a rental car that we would not have if we had flown into MCO.
I'm very pleased with how it all turned out!!! :thumbsup2

The double digit happy dance started today. :dance3: Only 99 more days!!!

We've flown into Sanford twice and used Alamo to rent a car just for the drive into WDW (we returned the car to the Dolphin) and on the drive back. The two, one-day rentals came out to be much cheaper than a car service! The drive on 417 into WDW is a breeze. We just used Disney transportation during the week.

We flew into/out of Sanford july 07. This is a small user friendly airport. Arrivals and Departures is upstairs and luggage pick-up and check-in are downstairs. The gate area has a few small eating places and a little gift shop so you can grab a drink or snack after going through security.

There are also a few eating places right beside baggage claim so you can eat a bite if you want before going upstairs to security. This area has some tables and chairs that for us made a great place to eat while waiting.

Two car rental agents are right inside not 100 ft from the baggage carousel. One of them was Hertz (sorry I am not sure of the other) There were also rental desks outside across from the terminal but it was not more than 100yds to get to them. We found the airport itself quick, clean and easy to navigate.

Getting to Disney took almost an hour (to the CR) and rental prices were higher from SFB than MCO. We took the greenway (toll hwy) to Disney and found it an easy drive without traffic at 11pm (arrival) and also at noon (departure). Tolls were about $6 each way (at $.50 and $1.00 each plaza)- bring your change for a faster trip through the tolls.

Car rental places do stay open later than advertised hours if flights are delayed (we were 2 hrs late.)

We didn't love Allegiant air but for the price it is faster than driving and 1/2 the price of other airlines.

Have a great trip!
