We're having a difficult time finding reasonably priced round-trip airfares to Orlando from the Washington, DC area for our April cruise. I know the Spring Break time-frame is high demand and thus high prices. Airtran out of Baltimore, MD (BWI) flying direct to Daytona Beach International Airport is currently the best fare. Mapquest indicates it's a little over an hour's drive down I-95 to the Port. We're flying in the day before cruise.

Looking for comments about the DBIA airport itself, and doing this drive to and from the Port.

TIA!

I don't know anything about the airport, but the drive should be really easy - just down 95 heading south.

I live in Port Orange, which is Daytona Beach area. It takes me about an hour to drive to the port.

DAB airport is GREAT! It's a small airport so going throiugh security is a breeze - none of those mile-long lines you can get at Orlando. I don't think you'll have any regrets if you fly into Daytona. :thumbsup2

However, Daytona is of course a major spring break spot, so can get busy during those times. Any way you look at it though, it's easier to come and go than with Orlando.

We used to own a time share on Daytona Beach and utilized that airport quite a bit. Never had any problems and would definitely use it again.

We go to Daytona Beach every year, for many years. We fly into Orlando (we don't want to change planes in Atlanta) and drive to Daytona Beach. It usually takes us less than an hour on I-4. But if you are going to the port you will take I-95, which should take even less time.

Daytona has a very nice airport and it is an easy drive to the port. :)

AirTran only started serving Daytona's Airport today or yesterday--great airline, great airport! And it's SO much easier to get into and out of than dealing with the insanity in Orlando! It's an easy drive, and it's actually less than an hour from Daytona (I'm in DeLand, another 20 minutes drive past Daytona from the port) and I can get to the port in an hour. I wouldn't worry too much about Spring Breakers--I think most of them drive down there, anyway. Believe me--it'll be SO much easier than trying to get through the masses of humanity at Orlando. The only thing you don't get that you might consider a big deal--Disney's Magical Express to and from port, assuming you're going direct to and from the airport. If you're renting a car anyway, then this won't matter to you! Have a great trip!

Be aware thought that if you go during "bike week" in March traffic can be bad.

Bike Week is March 2-11 this year. Should be no problem if you are coming in April. :)
