Our flight is for Tues (6/13) morning. We are scheduled to land at 1:10 at MCO. I am having a serious panic attack. I HATE to fly. I am scared to death. I was scared before I knew we were flying into a tropical storm!

What should we do??? :scared1: :scared1:   :scared: :faint:

There most likely will be delays. Usually if there is a bad thunderstorm they will fly around it. You may have a lot of turbulence. Check your airline website for up to date information on flights.

I suspect there will be delays. The airlines WILL NOT send a plane into the middle of a tropical storm. I would keep an eye on the storm and in touch with your airline. If you can, think about changing your flights to arrive a day earlier or later. Most airlines will make changes at no charge when there is a big storm.

May i suggest you also contact your doctor, explain the situation and see if he/she will call in a prescribtion for something to ease some of your anxiety.

There are alot of low-dose anxiety medication that will allow you to be fully aware but help you to keep your "fears" in check.

wishing you an uneventful flight.

Remember that the airline is NOT going to take off if they don't think it's safe to fly. They are just as concerned as you are with your safety. (They are more concerned then I am LOL!)

Airlines have NO desire to put you in harm's way.... they would rather take the delay....

Also, you are 48 hrs. or so out. A storm can make drastic course changes in that much time, so you might be worrying for absolutely nothing.

You really don't know where the paths might intersect until just a few hours before, but you can be sure that the airline has people watching 24/7 and altering flight plans as needed. They will alter the flight plan mid-flight if that is necessary to get around the storm.

Back in Oct 1999, we landed in Orlando about 2 hours after hurricane Irene (I think it was Irene) passed through. It was choppy, but I've had worse turbulence in thunderstorms. You'll be fine.

Pilots won't even fly into a tropical storm. except the hurricane hunters. I understand there comments when doing it is weeeeee.

One word, Xanax! I am going for my annual physical and am going to ask for a prescription for it for September! I need it on blue sky days. I have a full blown anxiety attack at the airport, so I need to take it before I even get there. It is very addictive, so do not get anymore than you will need- one going and one coming back!

Trust me, My Dh has waited at many an airport for thunderstorms to clear before the plane takes off.

I use to live near ORD in chicago and listened to the pilots and tower talk on a scanner. Whenever a big storm shut the airport down and showed signs of passing thru you would hear the tower ask for any volunteer to take off and report how things were.
