Flying Fish

Crispy Fried Calamari - Vietnamese dipping sauce and shredded Romaine lettuce. - $13.00

Ahi Tuna "Tataki" - Wakame, Lotus root chip, sweet-spicy garlic sauce. - $14.00

These were not on the menu when we ate at FF on 8/26. The calamari (one of our favorites) was replaced by buttermilk battered fried rock shrimp with gazpacho sauce. So we got the shrimp (along with the mussels), and they were great. :thumbsup2

I see the crab cakes now! Thanks, I was looking at the entrees but I guess they could make the appetizer into an entree, right? I do love crab cakes.

We go to FF every year. We went in March this year and the food was not as good on past trips. Hopefully, it is not a trend...

See! This is exactly why you to "average the differences." We dined at FF about six years ago and were supremely disappointed. Finally, giving it another chance this past December, we fell in love and cannot wait to return this November! It was easily the best meal of the week and that was a week which included the CG (our usual favorite) and the Brown Derby (an old favorite).

The filet, btw, was the best I have ever tasted and I taste a LOT!!!

We have an FF about 20 minutes or so from where we live, but we don't care for it. Everything just has too many extra ingredients on it... sauces, like you mentioned, being one of them.

But that's JMO. It might be better in Disney World, though.

That sauce looks great to me. Bearnaise, maybe? Yum.

I'm telling you: It was to DIE for!!!

Yes, I know they call it something else, but to me it tasted like a top notch Bernaise Sauce.

I think it's over rated, not worth 2 credits to me.

The sauce on the NY Strip is amazing. It is called Foyot Sauce, which is a variation of a berrnaise sauce with the addition of a well reduced meat glaze. It is sooooooooooo good!!!!

With tarragon. The sauce was the only part i liked of FF. The server brought me two more little pots.

You may have a restaurant with the same name, but this is not a chain restaurant - its Disney owned. There are chain restaurants on property - DTD and Animal Kingdom (plus a few McDonalds), but generally speaking, most restaurants at Disney are unique.

(I loved Flying Fish and didn't care for Jiko. My husband preferred Jiko but enjoyed Flying Fish. Tastes are different. - I suspect the food at Jiko was fine, I just misordered, and didn't like the waiter.)

Is the Flying Fish suitable for kids 9 and 6?? Or more upscale? Our kids are well behaved but just wondering if it would be worth the 2 credits.

Like all WDW restaurants, with the possible exception of V&A's, I think children are more than welcome.

My kids are young (7/5/4) and they've been to FF three times. They love the atmosphere, and the steak on the kid's menu is pretty good.

As for it being worth 2 credits, I wouldn't use two credits to pay for a kids' meal anywhere.

kathy, can you tell me where the palm is? ate at the palm off of broadway in nyc. it was great. thanks in advance.

Not Kathy, but The Palm Restaurant is in the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal. If you've never been, that would provide a good opportunity to check out the resorts on UO property. :)

Oh no!! Why does it happen every time? :confused3 I spend ages planning where to eat, just added FF and then someone comes along and gives a negative review, which then gets some posts agreeing! :sad2:

I wanted a Boardwalk restaurant and we are already eating at Yachtsman, so someone recommended FF. We could change to Spoodles(if available) and have a spare credit I suppose!

Decisions, decisions, decisions!!! :teeth:

Don't worry about it. The original post here is nearly two years old. Since then and BEFORE then there have been positive AND negative reviews about every single restaurant on Disney property. Not everybody likes everything...that's why there are different restaurants!

LOL!!! I wonder if anyone else realized that!
I hate when very old posts are dug up. How does that even happen?

Nope I SURE didn't notice til it was pointed out!! Gotta start looking at the dates of the original posts on some of these threads.

It's possible that someone did a search on the restaurant and then just replied not realizing when the thread was started. Looks like it was a newbie who replied to the old thread....but hey, now we know why it may have been bad?? Very possible the main chef has changed since??

Just wanted to add, one poster asked about FF being kid-friendly, yes for sure! :thumbsup2 It's usually just myself and my (now 8 yr old) dd who frequent FF, she started going here at age 5 and discovered she liked salad...now that's a plus! :thumbsup2 We do usually sit up at the open kitchen counter to watch the chef's cook though, but I've seen plenty of families here.

It is a bit more upscale but it's a great place to dine! And it is still a casual and comfortable atmosphere. We'll be there Saturday night (this time we're bringing "dad"!) :thumbsup2

It's probably changed a few times. There is a new chef now, he started in July or August. Chef Tony.

I may be there Sunday night. Let us know how saturday goes! Enjoy!!

Not only did I not realize that the original post was almost two years old, I did not even realize that I had responded to the original post two years ago, so I responded again when this popped back up! :rotfl2:
