DW, DD (14) and I stayed for a long weekend at the Hilton resort on I-Drive. Not bad for non-Disney btw. Our first night we had our first meal at Flying Fish Cafe. We count this among our top fine dining experiences at Disney now.

DW had the signature potato crusted snapper. The potato crust was a crispy counterpoint to the tender, flakey snapper. We surprised to find it wasn't greasy at all. The fish was fresh and the wine reduction balanced it all nicely. We went with the wine recommendation on the menu (which I forget now), and it paired well with the sauce. It was a red, which I thought would overwhelm it all and didn't.

I had the divers bay scallops with basil risotto. I forget the cheese that was in it, but it was tasty. The scallops were well-seared, but still tender and fresh-tasting. The menu's wine recommendation was a little dry for me as a sipping wine, but paired well the dish. My only issue was the texture of the risotto. I know chefs like pasta and rice al dente, but this was beyond either of those. It was so toothy it was gritty. In retrospect, I should have sent it back. Disney chefs are willing to cook foods to the guest's preference, and I should have asked.

DD had the child's steak. She liked it, but it was nothing special.

We shared two desserts. The first was a chocolate caramel bread pudding with dried apricot compote and dark chocolate gelato. If I could be, I'd still be there eating it. It was that good! I thought the compote and the dark chocolate would clash, but the compote kept the bread pudding and gelato from being cloying.

The other dessert was a peach gelato served over a waffle. The gelato soaks into the waffle and makes for a much better experience than the usual waffle with syrup.

The service is attentive and the decor is kind of a whimsical continuation of the boardwalk theme. If you're looking for romance, look somewhere else. There are tile floors throughout much of the restaurant, so the place is loud. The only other issue for us is it shares restrooms with the sweet shop next door and Spoodles on the other side. The Romans didn't need the phalanx to win battles. All they needed was to get a bunch of four-year-olds to stand in line for ice cream on a 90-degree evening. Nothing can get through that. In spite of those picks, we will definitely go back for the fun atmosphere and the delicious food.

Thanks for sharing your review with us, FF is one of my favorite's too!:goodvibes

I really enjoy reading positive reviews of this restaurant. Every time I visit, the food is excellent and the service is that much better. Last time I visited, a server recognized me from a previous visit and came over to say hello. I really thought that was great and reaffirmed why I always return to the FF.

Thanks for sharing the review...

We are looking forward to our reservation in September!

seems like everyone likes flying fish - can't remember a bad review being posted there - and the food sounds really good, what you had!
