Flying Fish Cafe - worth it?

We really enjoyed our meal there - I had potato crusted snapper - very good. I hear the halibut is great also.

I would say it's TOTALLY worth it. It was one of our best meals and one of the best experiences we had. We were on DxDpl and chose to do a few 2TS meals. We hadn't ever eaten there or really heard anything about it, but after reading other reviews here on the Dis, we decided to give it a try. I can't begin to tell you how awesome the food is. But above that, the experience is even more fun.

The wait staff was amazing and alot of fun and were extremely attentive. My DD ordered the child's fish, which turned out to be salmon ( I didn't even think to ask) and she didn't like it. Well, our waiter saw that she wasn't eating that and went and got her something else without even saying anything to us. I thought that was so sweet (and so wasn't necessary). but they just go that extra mile. :lovestruc

After dinner, we walked around the Boardwalk, watched the magician and had a WONDERFUL evening. it will be a part of our next trip for sure!!

We just returned form a stay at the Boardwalk, DH and I snuck down tot he flying fish one night late (9:55pm) after the little ones were sleeping (older sisters babysat), Neither of us are big fish eaters, but wanted to try it, we sat at the bar and split the Calamari appetizer which was delish and the split the steak, This was hands down the BEST steak I had all week long. (and we ate a lot of steak)

I was VERY disappointed with my steak at the Yachtsman:sad2:, loved my filet at Cali grill, but thought the Flying Fish steak had a great flavor. Liked it better then Le Cellier and the filet at The Wave (although they were both really good too).

I would definitely try it!

I would agree that Flying Fish is definitely worth it. It is our MUST DO each and every trip! The NY Strip at FF is, in my opinion, is the best steak on property and I have been to the Yachtsman, Blue Zoo, Citrico's and even Shula's. I guess the Kobe at Victoria & Alberts is better but when you factor in the cost and fact that I can't afford that every tip. I ALWAYS go back for the Strip at FF. The char-crusting and the sauce is just perfect....love it. In fact just booked my reservation for May and can't wait!

I went to Flying Fish once, last October. I definitely recommend this Signature restaurant. I have eaten steak at Artist Point, California Grill, FF and Jiko (never went to Bluezoo): the one at FF was definitely the best! Artisan cheese is a great appetizer. The wine list, which features some wine flights, is great. Atmosphere and location on the Boardwalk add to the whole experience. Among Disney restaurants, FF and Cali Grill are my favorites.

Flying fish is wonderful. We have eaten there for years, last time in September. Superior food and service. Steak is one of the best on property. Enjoy!

Flying Fish is Fantastic Fare! Superb Seafood and Steak! Wonderfully Well Worth!

On our last trip to the BW, we ended up eating there twice and cancelling a rezzie somewhere else because the first time was so good. The seafood was all excellent, and the strip steak really was the best steak on property that we had.

We've eaten at FF within the last 3 months and it was a nice meal. Was it worth it? That really depends on you. I had the steak there and, while it was OK, wouldn't suggest going if steak is really what you are after. IMHO, the steak at Yacthsman is much better.

General rule of thumb; if going to a seafood restaurant, get seafood. :thumbsup2

Wow, I could have written this same thing...word for word. I too ate there 3 months ago and made the mistake of ordering the steak. While it was good, it was not nearly as good as the one I had two nights later at Yachtsman Steakhouse. If I return to Flying Fish (and I probably will), I am definitely going to get seafood...probably their Signature Dish Potato Wrapped Red Snapper.

stinksmom-LOL on the Red Lobster comment. Nascargirl and my buddies that work at Disney that I hang with on my Girl's trip actually tease me saying "Oh, you have a Red Lobster in Iowa? In the corn fields?" Never ends:rotfl: As far as the Flying Fish, it is a twice a trip visit for us. The snapper is excellent and their risotto is good as well. I request it instead of the rest of the dish with the snapper. We have always had a good meal. We also make this a stop on our girl's trip every year as well. Yum!:goodvibes

we've eaten at flying fish twice in the last 2 years and had a really good meal and excellent service both times. i use to love california grill but our last trip the meal wasn't good and the service was the worst of our trip. another good spot if you haven't been is citricos.

I think we have eaten at all of the signature restaurants mutiple times now. We give every restaurant at least two tries just in case it is a bad server or bad day. It is THE place that my husband requests that I make reservations for every trip. I had options - very open choices - and in March and April we will be eating at FF. We love the regular bar - the service and feel is wonderful. The manager makes sure that everything is always perfect for us. We love FF!

Our Ratings of Flying Fish:
. . . food price value: C-
. . . food quality: B-
. . . food quantity per serving: B-
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C+
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: B
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff helpfulness: B
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: Flying Fish is the most expensive eatery at
WDW on a per-person-revenue basis (even more revenue
per person than Victoria & Albert's). The service is good,
but not commensurate with the prices. Chicken for $37 and
beef for $42 should be fantastic, and not just above average.
It should also be accompanied with superb service. That
is why the price value only is "C-".

We have made reservations at the Flying Fish Cafe for our trip in June. We love to have a good dinner but don't typically do this at DW. It's hard to justify the prices of some of the signature restaurants when we could have a much better meal at some of favorite restaurants at home. And it seems to be hit or miss whether the food is worth the $$ at some of the DW restaurants.

With that said, we do like to have one really good meal when we visit DW. Is Flying Fish Cafe the place to do this? We've been to Le Cellier and California Grill, and loved both places! And we've had dinners at some of the other table service restaurants such as Ohana, Kona Cafe, Olivia's, Maya Grill and a few others. We have mixed feelings about whether some were worth the price, keeping in mind that it's Disney. We've had way too many buffets and try to avoid those now.

With all that said, is Flying Fish Cafe worth the money? or would we be just as happy eating at a non-signature table service restaurant? And I know DH will want the steak - is it any good there? Of course he will order the steak at the seafood restaurant and I typically order some fish at steak restaurants :rotfl:

Thanks for your input!

We have enjoyed it in years past, but on our last trip (October 2010), it was a big disappointment. Lackluster flavors, uninformed server, big BIG bill. I don't know if this was a one-off misstep or if Flying Fish is slipping. The only thing we enjoyed was the cheese plate. The rest of it was not even worth half the $$$. Kind of sad. Time to find a new favorite place!

We were just back from Disney and of course this being one of our favorite dining spots we not only went there once, but twice because it was so good. It was one of the best meals of the trip. The snapper is a PERFECTLY cooked piece of fish. I wish I could get it more often.

I have to tell everyone the second best piece of fish we had was at the Brown Derby. The Grouper was fantastic also. :thumbsup2

You may want to read the dining reviews here when trying to decide. :disrocks:

Ate there last March. It was historically our favorite. I tried the steak per recommendation and I sent it back. Got another one, just as bad. Wife had seafood and loved it. I normally get snapper there and loved it. But the last experience was so memorably mediocre to poor that we're going to Bluezoo on our next visit. So I agree and no I don't really think it is worth it.

I've eaten at Flying Fish many times over the years and have never had a bad meal. I was just there in December and had an absolutely fantastic experience: excellent food and service. It was hands down the best meal of the trip.
