Flying Fish a "victim" of DDP?

With all the recent discussion of the dumbing down of menus and creative signature dishes, I haven't heard much about the Flying Fish. Has anyone had a negative post-DDP experience there? We haven't been in a few years; we thought quality had suffered a bit from their success/popularity. Wondering if it's still worth a trip...

I still like it but my DH refuses to go there now because they took the chocolate souffle off the menu. I don't know if they did that because of the DDP, though. When we asked our server, he told us that they frequently change the menu. It's weird, though, because that dessert has been on there for years. Maybe it is a victim of the DDP

I'll be eating at FF early next week (Mon, I think?) I'll be doing a review when I get back if that helps. I'm hoping it survived, it's the only Disney restaurant we're eating at this trip (BlueZoo, PftS & F&WF the rest of the time) because of the DDP travesty.

We ate at FF in august and the only menu change I noticed was that the calamari appetizer was replaced with fried rock shrimp. The calamari was one of our favorites. We tried the rock shrimp and they were phenomenal, a worthy replacement.

My DH had the rock shrimp in September and loved it. He counted 31 shrimp! It was our first visit to Flying Fish and we used the dining plan and DDE for a bottle of wine. Our meal was fantastic and the waitress was exceptional.

Doesn't seem like the signature restaurants have had much menu changes. The FF menu chnages randomly anyway.

I never saw what the big deal about that chocolate lava cake was, it seemed to be just like the Sysco frozen desserts we buy for our convention center.
I bet they buy them from Sysco too.

I wish they would make more homemade desserts.

The calamari to rock shrimp change was probably Chef Jens final change at FF...A worthy one I'd say.

FF used to be one of our favorites. But the last time we went there they had taken away champagne flights, and took our favorite desserts off the menu. Now we prefer Blue Zoo. If all of the Disney restaurants end up with similar menus, we'll be happy to spend our time and money trying more swan/dolphin restaurants. Blue Zoo is awesome!!

I looked at FF yesterday for a possible ADR but the menu is looking like yet another carbon copy of other restaurants. I think it was most like CA Grill as I recall.

We ate at FF during our trip in June and it was so good we cancelled an ADR and went back a 2nd time. We were a bit disappointed the chocolate souffle was gone, too .. until .. we tasted the chocolate sampler! YUM!

Also, just so folks know .. the menu changes almost nightly depending on the fish they get that day. So, the menu you see on the internet may not be what's offered that night.

I absolutely agree with you. I tried it once there years ago and found it very uninspiring for a chocolate dessert. I think they still have it, but changed it's name. The banana Napoleon was my favorite, but the chef relaced it with a rasberry Napoleon that was not as good. The last time we were there a few months ago, there was no Napoleon at all on the menu.

We will be going there in a few weeks.

One thing you will learn if you spend enough time on the boards is that everything that is considered "bad" will somehow be connected to the DDP.

Had to wait 40 minutes for Soarin? DDP is at fault.

A chef leaves a resteraunt? DDP is at fault because most people stay at one job their entire life.

Kids can only get hot dogs and chicken fingers for $11 a day for two meals plus a snack? Blame the DDP. Shouldn't $11 go so much further at WDW?

Dumbing down the menus? Blame the DDP. I mean almost every resteraunt in WDW serves some sort of chicken and beef,so basically all the menus are the same.

Change out your favorite desert? Blame the DDP. Menus never changed since 1971 before the DDP.

Agreed - DDP isn't at fault for very many menu changes at all. But yet it always becomes the most convenient excuse. Please don't allow yourself to be a part of this stereotype.

I did not mean to imply that the demise of chocolate lava cake was because of DDP. I was merely agreeing that it was not one of their better desserts.

I actually enjoyed the chocolate lava cake, though I found a crockpot cake recipe that reminds me of it.
