We are flying from Newburgh NY into Sanford for our first time on Allegiant Air. I have not heard much about them but the fares were reasonable and the airport is close to us. Anyone have any experience flying them (good or bad?) I know they are "no-frills" and that's OK because we have a short flight.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks

We flew Allegiant from Worcester to Sanford in Feb. We brought our own drinks and snacks because I did not want to pay $2 for a can of soda! On our flight down someone had a peanut allergy and we were asked not to use any products with peanuts. So much for the cheese and peanut butter crackers! DH and I were able to sit in the exit row and DS17 a few seats away from us. It was a smooth flight. We rented a car from Alamo I believe -- long walk to their counter outside, and it was about an hour drive to the Windsor Palms condo we had rented. Tolls were about $6 to the Osceola Parkway which runs from the Wide World of Sports area all the way to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

The only negative I have about Allegiant is their too early flight time return to Worcester at 7:20 in the am!

I was glad to use a regional carrier and to try to support the Worcester airport. We generally fly SWA from PVD, so I am not used to legacy carriers and assigned seating.

Many passengers have liked flying into Sanford. Your airport and Sanford are similiar. No crowds, no hassle and easy to get through. You airplane is an MD-80 which has been the workhorse of the commercial fleet second to the 737. The flight is short and non-stop. You are about 50 miles from Disney. There are rentals and taxis available. The taxi one way to Disney is about $110.00 and really on a meter. You will be able to find a car service for around $190.00 roundtrip. The only drawback landing Sanford is the price it takes to get to Disney, but I know you will save the ride and more on your ticket prices.

I flew into Sanford from Worcester back when PanAm was still flying. Loved Sanford. We found it to be a terrific airport...very easy to get around, not horribly congested. We did use Tiffany Towncar for the ride to and from WDW. Stretch limo was about $200 if I remember correctly. It did take close to an hour to get to WDW....but for the amount I save on airfare, I'll be doing it again I'm sure. Also agree with the departure time for flights back home though. 7:20 is abominable!!! Perhaps I'll fly out of Worc. on Allegiant and into TFGreen on SW. We'll see. But, you will like Sanford.

We flew Allegiant from Sanford to Portsmouth last October and we had no complaints (although it's hard to complain since we paid just $39 for our tickets!!). They're no frills but I would definitely fly them again if the price was right. Sanford is a nice airport, very small compared to MCO and easy to navigate.

We are flying them in a couple weeks from Portsmouth! I've heard good things so far...the only thing I'm nervous about is that I didn't purchase the extra $10 per person for assigned seating...

We didn't pay in advance for assigned seating and when we checked in they assigned us seats at no charge. The plane was just over half full so it wouldn't have been an issue anyway. You should be fine.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement - I am not a great flyer and this was giving me some anxiety! I'm so used to larger airports and big name carriers I was anticipating all kinds of problems - we did pay the $10.00 fee for the assigned seats because we have 2 small children and the flight out was pretty booked back when we made the reservations in May. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get 4 seats together.

Thanks again all!

I have a friend who loves Allegiant's service from Newburgh to Sanford. Don't worry! Stewart (Newburgh) is a nice airport too. Enjoy!

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

DD11 and I flew Allegiant from Lansing, MI to Sanford last month. It was great. I paid the $10 seating fee because DD gets nervous if our seating isn't figured out in advance. The tickets were less than half the cost of Delta, Northwest, and United. They are definitely no frills, but most of the other airlines are pretty much no frills anymore, too. Bring along a snack and a drink and you'll be fine. (They gave us a cup of ice for no charge.)

Sanford is a nice, small airport that is easy to manuever around. I also rented a car from Alamo for $154 for 10 days. I thought that was more than reasonable and we used the car a lot. Tolls were $6 to get to SSR; $5.00 on the way back (I think I remember that right). It was easy to get to a gas station on the return trip.

We will definitely use Allegiant and Sanford again. I missed ME, but the cost couldn't be beat.

You'll be fine!
