Please take time to go out and put out your American Flag today.

The president has asked that all American Flags be flown at half staff today (9-11).

Democrat, Republican, Independent, it doesnt matter today, get out and put your flag out to show respect for all those who lost their lives on 9/11.

I just had to say that yesterday my DH spent the day making a tribute to 9-11. He has a big board with various pictures from papers and magazines along with the words - We Will Never Forget 9-11." We have it out in our front yard with a candle burning and a few small flags. I am so proud of him. We live right across the street from a high school and I watched the kids walk to school this morning and stop to read the board. It is hard to believe that it was 5 years ago today.

OK I'm gonna rant here.

It just irks me that certain corporations in this country wrap themselves in the American Flag, but they dont have the decency to do the right thing!

On Memorial Day the flag is flown at half staff till noon, to honor all of those who have died defending this country.

On September 11th, the flag is flown at half staff all day to honor those who died on that terrible day.

I've already driven past Walmart, Chick Fil A, and Checkers, and the flags were not at half staff. I've contacted corporat offices at all three locations.

My next set of erronds will take me past the local city hall and two fire stations, God have mercy on those people if they are not in compliance!

Sorry, I get a little patriotic at times!

If your gonna use the flag for your sales ad's and promotions, then use it on days of rememberance also, and do the right thing!

I can't post links yet (newbie!) but I highly recommend going to the Community Board and reading "so its been 5 years as of tomorrow..." by mrFDNY. You'll need tissue, but it will absolutely get you in the right frame of mind today.

Thanks for the reminder about flags. As I'm out and about I'll keep my eye open and speak to managers, etc. if its not being done. Good idea!

Well I just got back from running around town getting things done.

Here is the local list of winners and loosers.

Winners (Buisnesses who lowered their flag)

All of the local government buildings here in Osceloa County (Kissimmee)
Perkins Restaurants
Walmart
Most local car dealerships

And now the loosers

McDonalds (can any buisness be more American?)
Suntrust Bank
Checkers and Chick Fil A (both of which fly a huge flag every day of the week)
Blockbuster Video (Isn't this place owned by a right wing conservative)
And the local Moose Lodge

Just to name a few.

There is a local Mexican restaurant that we have been wanting to try lately, their flag was at half staff, guess where we are going to dinner tonight?

And they wonder why it's loosing business faster than any other rental company. They get business, just not people And do you really expect much from Ted Turner? He's a buddy of Dubya's from Texas.

although unfortunately, I cannot make it half-mast. (probably nobody will see it anyway except the kids when they come home from school and maybe the UPS guy.) I was struck by all the little kids at the Ground Zero Memrial on TV this morning -- very sad.
