Fly on Friday the 13th?? Yep, we`ll turn superstition into 23 nights of fun!! A Sept/Oct 2024 TR

either Potter restaurant for the food that they serve, if you`ve never been to the UK, this is not what we have over here generally.
That is exactly how we feel about the poutine outside of Canada - especially at a park that will cut corner to make it quick, in large quantity and for the lowest price possible.

He suggested we visit in the evening and shine a torch to see them clearer, yes, that`s a good idea, let`s irritate them!!!!
:rotfl: I howled when I read that!!!!!

That's like a video I seen on someone outside of car - tossing little bits of food at a grizzly bear - and of course the bear attacked the person. Darwinism at it finest!

I know dh and boys want to do an airboat ride/ alligator sight seeing tour. I'm hoping to go to the same one dh and I did the last time we were there. It might have to be on the day we fly out - as we don't leave until 5:55 PM local time.

I totally forgot about Finnegan's and Lombards. We prefer more of a sit-down type meal vs a quick service type meal. I will add them onto our list!

Great pre-trip so far. The countdown will go quickly now ::yes::

Mount Dora does look lovely! And I agree with you completely -- the last thing I want to do is annoy an alligator. Also, the last place I would be is out on that lake! 🙅‍♀️Much better to spend your time selecting olive oil and wine. Those restaurants do look like they are worth the trip 😍 What a nice way to take a much needed break from the activity in the Parks.

lol....sounds like an extreme sport....annoy an alligator!!! Yep, not for me! They live in their territory and I won`t be disturbing them.

Oh it really is so lovely Maria, Mount Dora is stunning, it is so relaxing and yes, the restaurants are well worth a visit, all of them to be honest. Olive oil and wine are bonus points for going there too 😊

Yes!!!! Some things should be left to those that know what they`re doing with dishes! I`m still trying to decide if I like the sound of Poutine or maybe it`s not such a good idea lol....

People be crazy around some animals, wild animals will always revert to what nature gave them to work with! Got to love those Darwin Awards!!

That`s like us too Pumpkin, we much prefer a sit down place, take our time and not rush around like mad people. Both are very good and for us especially Finnegans has much improved over the last few years, we avoided it for a long time but now we really enjoy it.

Thank you 🙂....counting down the days for sure, covid aside, this is the first time we`ve only gone once in calendar year since 2016, so we did miss it in May, even though it was for a very good cause!!

Good morning Carole :wave2: Finely parked myself down to start on your trip report. Count me in I’am along for the ride.

As always I know it will be full of good travel information, fun places to see and good food to eat. Also great pictures too.

It’s never to early to start a trip report. So glad to see yours up and running.

I do like to put a face to a name, so this was us in December last year with the squirrel dude.
LOL…I knew you would cave into Earl the Squirrel sooner of later. He is a large happy rodent that I don’t think is going away anytime soon. Love the picture.

Usually this time of year we are getting excited for HHN but this year we are passing on the whole event. I`m sure it`ll still be fun, but I think we have become jaded on the event and probably a bit bored with it all now, especially as it just keeps getting busier and busier and the subtle cost effective procedures in place now are a little obvious to us as long time visitors. It`s a very different event from what it was way back in 2007, some good things of course, but it doesn`t seem we enjoy it as much as we used to. So this will be our first September without going to HHN. I don`t think we`ll be stuck for things to do elsewhere!!!
Sorry to hear about your not attending HHN this year. You are so right things have really changed. It is just not the same event.

I’am attending this year. Just can’t give up yet. I will decide as to whether I attend again after this year. Last year was nuts.

Mount Dora is worth the little drive if you have a free day to pass and want to visit somewhere that will give you a slower pace for a day. It is a very relaxing place to walk around, plenty of stores to visit and many wonderful food options that will cater to every taste.

Sounds like a nice little town. I remember reading about it on your previous reports. That area sounds like a place that would be worth a nice side trip to visit for sure.

Look forward to reading more.

I do wish there was a decent seafood option around in the parks or Citywalk, for exceptional seafood. I don`t count Bubba Gumps as decent at all, but I guess top end restaurants wouldn`t really fit in around the parks, I get it, so we do go offsite for good seafood or to the hotels too.
You gave a very fair & balanced review. I remember the drink @ Lombards, didn’t know they’d still whip it up.

Sadly, it’s not only U park venues that have had issues with food quality over the last 5+ (if not longer) years. Seemingly, it’s been far too easy to still blame it all on Supply issues. You are correct, there are just far too many restaurants offsite who try harder via offering more interesting menus, a shame not to try a few each visit.

A shame as I often gave the nod to U’s in park offerings over WDW’s, especially Mythos that we quit well before covid due to the menu changes

(N)ever smile @ a crocodile? 🐊 Tastes like chicken? No thanks.

Spent a few years living in FL as a child, loved the Tampa Bay Area. It was common to swim in parks’ rivers with just a netting system between you and the gators. Yes, we would hang out near it to catch glimpses of “the dinosaurs”.

Admittedly, that mind set could easily morph into natural selection at its finest territory.

However, I am so tempted to surprise the mr & drag him off to gatorland (he’s never been). Maybe do the night program wherein you do shine flashlights to summon them to come & say hellooo

Mt Dora looks far more civilized and they have shopping hmmm

Another thing on the bucket list, however, the thot of picking bugs out of my hair & teeth has stopped me thus far. Which one do you favor?

:welcome: along Robbie!

You would love Mount Dora and similar places too, it feels completely different to the high energy of the parks, beautiful places.

Yes, HHN for us is over, since 2007 we have seen the decline of things but crowds increasing. I wouldn`t care what they charged we would still go if it felt as though we`d really enjoy it, but overcrowding and declining facilities just don`t appeal to us anymore. However, I do still hope they redeem themselves and it picks up again to what it used to be. I always feel I`m knocking it, it is still a good show, but just not what it was.

lol.....yes Earl grew on us for sure, it was a very good meet!

Hope you enjoy this one too Robbie :wave2:

Mythos is not somewhere we have enjoyed for a long time, no plans to go back and yes, I do feel sometimes the park restaurants could do more. We do enjoy a fair few onsite places for sure, but it is nice to have decent park food too.

And yep, gator bites are never on our radar to try, no thanks!!! Oh you`d love Mount Dora too, so many little stores that couldn`t be friendlier if they tried. And it just has such a lovely feel about them as you wander round about.

lol....I think your mister would love Gatorland, and yes if you`re going to go, might as well go at night. We were a little freaked once when we went to The Gaylord Palms to have a wander and they had alligators dotted around and also snakes and something else in huts. Not my idea of fun, Tom loved it.....my nephew and his wife stay there for part of their trips for a couple of weeks before coming to Universal, but I don`t know, it didn`t appeal to me as much as I thought it would.

You need to ask for that cocktail next time you`re in Finnegans....they all know it well and make it well too!!! 😊

Time really does pass so quickly!

When we left Orlando in December, this trip seemed so far away, but as it rumbles ever closer at an alarming rate we have been thinking what we still have to do and although we are not planners by nature, some things just need to be done regardless.

Still haven`t got our rental car, but Tom will get that sorted in the next week or so, looks like at least it`ll be under $1400 which for 23 nights isn`t bad at all. Usually an SUV but to be honest, we`re not so bothered about what type of car we get, but looking at regular cars it`s not really any cheaper, maybe by $100 or so which isn`t a great saving in the grand scale of things.

Holiday insurance is another we still have to get, that is another cost we`ll never skimp on, we hopefully make sure we have every eventuality covered and tell them any little detail so if we ever do need to make a claim, it`s covered.

The cost of that has really rocketed over the last few years too, but it`s not something we grumble about too much!!! Well, maybe a little, something we hope we never need to use, but an essential item to purchase for anyone who doesn`t live in the US. The health care in America is one of the scariest things to think about.

There`s not too many folks there at the same time as us this year that we will meet up with, but we will be meeting up with our friends D & J who we adore, they only became friends a couple of years ago, but we hit it off with D straight away and stay in touch regularly, she is one of the nicest and kindest ladies we have ever met. She is a huge animal lover and her compassion for cats especially is special to see.

They can fly down many times in a year sometimes even for an overnight visit as it`s only a couple of hours flight time for them, so right now we have a date night planned, but of course if anything changes we have plenty of nights that we can swap for them, it`s easy for us to do that.

My nephew and his wife were supposed to be visiting same time as us, but change of plan due to new jobs changed all that which is a shame but good news for them. One of my cousins daughters too was supposed to be coming down, but she started a new job in June and only has so many hours vacation time......so a trip to Orlando wasn`t in the plans any more. I`m always shocked how little vacation time folks get in the US, especially in new jobs!! It would have been nice to see them all somewhere during our trip.

With not doing HHN it certainly frees up several more nights as we always bought the Rush of Fear with Express and went 6 or 7 times at least, so we do plan to have at least two pool nights.

We are really not pool people at all. I get bored during the day and so does Tom to be honest, after maybe half an hour max we`re both like.....ok, done this, what`ll we do now. It always looks so lovely seeing folks chilled out by the pool, but even reading a book which is something I love, it`s not for me.

Night time however........years ago someone described us as more like moonbathers, actually quite accurate!!!

1722430973779.jpeg

We will sit while watching a Dive-in movie, dipping in and out of the pool and of course food and a cocktail or two.

Bula Bar is one of the best pool bars for food between all the hotels, for us of course. The other pool bars at Sapphire, PB and HR are all excellent too, never had a complaint with any of them, this one just sits right with us.

On any evening we decide to have a pool night, we might check to see which movie is showing, we always enjoy the Potter movies and Shrek, but a lot of the children`s movies don`t interest us, so that does play into our decision, but if it`s not awful we`ll go down anyway.

We have never struggled to get a lounger, although we did have one woman try to negotiate sharing one of ours with her kids on one visit when the pool was busy, we had a perfect view of the screen and she wanted that too. She got short shrift as she was not pleasant. The sheer nerve of people at times never ceases to amaze me.

i-pHXwC3f-X2.jpg

The pool at night is beautiful, it is perfectly lit and of course with September temps it is glorious to be sitting out in the heat, without the worry of burning! We have West of Scotland skin that doesn`t really like the sun and we can get sunburn sitting too close to a lamp!!!

This gives me nightmares!!!

Everyone raves about the Nachos from Margaritaville, but the ones from Bula Bar are just as good if not better. Years ago the M`ville ones were huge, much bigger than they are now and really did look impressive, however this is a large portion and two hungry adults like us couldn`t finish them last twice we had them.

We don`t like chilli so we always get the chicken instead and extra, extra jalapenos and extra Tabasco, just adds that something extra special.

cv3-L.jpg

Over the years we`ve had probably eveything off the menu, old dishes are missed, they used to do a sweet chilli wrap that was beautiful, I wish they`d bring it back.

But, there are loads of lovely dishes to choose from including their burgers which are among the best, nicer than Jake`s last few years, their Huli Chicken Sandwich, Korean Pulled Pork but I recently tried their chicken quesadilla and I was very impressed, it was beautiful.

i-WhPJzG8-X2.jpg

There are a few new dishes since we last visited and they sound lush!!! A curry chicken salad wrap and a Hawaiian Hot Dog that does appeal. I don`t eat hot dogs normally, but this one is a bacon wrapped foot long dog with pineapple coleslaw, teriyaki sauce, siracha mayo and comes in a brioche bun. I know Tom loves a hot dog so this might appeal to him too.

1722454428407.png

They also now do a Spicy Margarita which is one of my favourite drinks and it has to be ultra spicy or you might as well not bother, they all come in 15 or 48oz options. Tom doesn`t care for Spicy Margaritas so I guess it`ll be the regular size for me. But they have loads of cocktails on offer as well as beers, wines and plenty of soft drinks too.

The staff come round to take your order as you relax by the pool or you can go order at the bar and they also have tables you can sit at or at the bar itself.

It really is a perfect way to chill for an evening or two 🍹

I do love the Bula Bar and RPR pool! It is absolutely gorgeous at night, and the food is delicious. I agree, the movie they are showing can make us decide it’s not the best night to be out there, but it has to be really awful. Otherwise we just enjoy being outside by the pool without the hot sun. Moonbathers is the perfect description for you!

Isn`t it the best!!!! The food has always hit the spot there and we do always think we wished we had more pool time, so no HHN should give us some free nights!

Sitting at night in the high 80`s and we always think, back home is cold right now lol.....

Yep, moonbathers really is the perfect way to describe us, we burn so easily so night time pool time is ideal for us.

I think you enjoy the HRH pool if I remember correctly....of course I could be wrong lol......

DUNEDIN

Dunedin is one of our favourite places to visit when in Florida, it is absolutely beautiful and so full of character and we always enjoy our visits there.

It`s been a couple of years since we have gone, we did think of going on our last trip, but we didn`t seem to have the time....I know, crazy right!!! It was one of those things that afterwards we thought we should have gone, but weren`t quite sure where we would have fitted it in.

The drive there is always interesting, once you hit Championsgate area, traffic can be horrendous, we have been stuck in that area more than onec, usually coming home, but it does add to one`s journey for sure, it usually takes around 2 hours, that`s taking it easy, but can be longer depending on the day.

Once you hit the causeways, it really is somewhere we would like to go spend some more time, I don`t really think we`d be very impressed with Tampa for some reason, but the drive itself is lovely. And you get to see the lovely Hard Rock Hotel as you drive down.

i-Sv3JN85-X2.jpg

Clearwater is only a little way down the road, but as we aren`t really the beach type people we much prefer this type of visit, however we would like to go back to the pier at Clearwater once more, we last visited that in 2007 and that was an eventful journey where we got lost coming home in the dark, we were rescued from a very dodgy area by a police car and they safely returned us to the correct road. It was at the time they were making massive road improvements and satnav was as much use as a chocolate fire guard. But, we survived to tell the tale.

There are plenty of parking spots and we always enjoy a wander round the lovely little park between the shops and the marina, it has loads of shade and space to sprawl around in and some unique monuments to look at.

i-4h32cqS-X2.jpg

i-65tZhjK-X2.jpg

The marina area is beautiful, we spent several hours there over a couple of trips just enjoying the tranquility and it was always nice chatting to people, most folks hear the Scottish accent and it is a conversation starter for sure, but it`s a very relaxing place to sit and watch the world go past.

i-xCsjFTW-X2.jpg

There is also a little boat that you can pay a nominal fee to get along to Clearwater in, Tom wanted to, but we didn`t do it as it was teeny tiny.....nope, not doing that....

1722624697554.jpeg

i-rJFbVcF-X2.jpg

The view from one of the restaurants we ate in is stunning, overlooking all the little boats enjoying the water and it really is one of the nicer views when having lunch.

i-mnVP9h8-X2.jpg

i-6KHCTST-X2.jpg

Bon Appetite sits within a hotel and I forget the name, it is lovely and quite classy, I do remember our waitress was not the friendliest we have ever had, I think she thought we were cluttering up the place too much lol.....but it was lovely the lady aside.

i-QTkt3Vk-X2.jpg

The seafood was beautiful here, but the service just took the shine off a little, we`d go back for sure.

i-x4Brckv-X2.jpg

i-pV5JWJr-X2.jpg

This was a little gem of a place, Olde Bay Cafe just before you walk into the marina, they were bringing the seafood in on a boat in front of us as we sat waiting to order, it was rustic for sure, but excellent!!!

i-npNZfJ9-X2.jpg

The scallops were gorgeous!! Tom`s seafood was very nice too, but he wished he`d just opted for the simple seafood.

i-MnhSVPC-X2.jpg

i-HgBWnqZ-X2.jpg

Walking back into the town is simply lovely, there are so many unique little stores including some very nice ice cream places, bars, restaurants and individual styled fast food places, I know when we go back we`ll be spoiled for choice for eateries.

i-C54qdMq-X2.jpg

i-h4rmBG3-X2.jpg

Like so many people we have military people in our families, so this was a nice sight to see as we wandered around.

i-QtvGTFm-X2.jpg

This is a definite place we`ll visit this time around, we enjoy the drive and the time here and we always go have a look at the property we nearly purchased in 2008. Back then with such a high exchange rate with some excellent properties for a very, very low price had us pondering buying a place.

We had no plans to let it out, just planned to use it, but in the end, long story short we decided we preferred staying in our favourite home from home hotel when we visit. It is still a beautiful property and well looked after, and definitely no regrets.

More to come 😊

Dunedin looks very nice. It sounds like a Scottish name to me? A lovely place for a visit ☀️

We do enjoy the HRH pool, but to be fair the one time we went there we had a cabana at the pool and were treated very well by the staff. It was an idyllic day, and we stayed there for hours 😊 Unlike you I am happy as a clam laying by the pool and reading, sipping a cocktail 🍹

Yes, the Dunedin in Scotland has been twinned with Dunedin Florida since the early 1960`s, I think the Fl one is a lot prettier than the Scottish one, certainly sunnier and warmer lol....

I do remember you having the cabana now, I thought it was you. Yes, the cabanas are lovely and nice to be spoiled. Is Mr worfie a sun seeker, I forget????

I do need to try sitting with a book by the pool. I can sit here in the garden when it`s warm with a book and probably a cocktail too, usually in the shade with some time in the sun but I`m up and down like a yoyo wandering back up to the house for something or other, but Tom could park himself and not move till I nudge him with a drink or food ::yes::

Off to Scotland for a few days to visit my family.

Weather doesn’t look to be brilliant, but it’s mainly to see family and not for sightseeing this time. But we might manage a couple of hours doing something and hoping we see one of the amazing West Coast sunsets on one of our nights.

Haven’t seen my mum since March, so looking forward to that a lot and of course the rest of my family too.

See you soon 😀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

See you soon 😀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Safe Travels and enjoy your mum! 🥰🥰🥰

Mr. Worfie tends to be on the Casper side and should use buckets of sunscreen…I tease him I can’t see it on his skin because they are the same color 🤣🤣

Thanks Maria, taking half an hour before we head back out again!

lol……Casper is a good one! Yes, pale folks do get that nickname! When we were on honeymoon, Tom was even whiter then and one woman said first time she saw him she thought….oh oh….he’s going to burn so badly! He didn’t though….

But, at least you both enjoy sitting in the sun!!

Mum is really well, looks so much better and it’s been nice to see her so active too, not bad for 89 as she likes to remind us :wave2:
