We will be heading to WDW over Labor Day and will be flying.. Just wondering if its safe to bring some coke cans in our check in luggage?? We are planning on buying the refillable mugs but want to bring a few cokes with us to drink in case we get thirsty thru the night..

because of the price.. we can get them cheaper here at home..We are using ME so we wont be able to go to the store..

How many do you need for one night?

A 20 oz bottle of Coke is $2 in the resort stores (if you buy them from vending machines, they cost $2.50) and they can be split between people if you have cups.

That doesn't sound like too much to spend, when compared to the risk of Coke cans exploding or leaking in your luggage.

Share??? Nala is obviously not a serious soda drinker. Or a cheapskate :)

As both a serious soda drinker, and a cheapskate, I can relate. Unfortunately, putting soda in checked baggage is risky. Contrary to popular belief, it's the rough handling, not any sort of pressure change, that can cause soda to explode in checked bags. If you've ever watched bagging being tossed onto a plane, you can see the problem. It can work, just be sure to double zip-lock bad the soda to keep both your stuff, and everybody else's soda free in case of problems.

Bringing soda carry-on works much better. Just know that if you are bringing more than a few, it starts to get heavy.

We went away for a night and I put cans of Pepsi in our carry bag to the hotel, well what a mistake that was by the time I reached the hotel one of them had somehow had a hole punctured in it and all our clothes were full of pepsi. My mistake I know but I learned the hard way.

Well we're not going for one night only.. its 3 and we are coke drinkers and I know I dont like to share :rotfl: .. This is a budget trip as we are going on a cruise in October and DF wasnt supposed to be coming with me to WDW but decided he wanted to go so we went from spending $500-550 for this trip to over $1000.. so every dollar I can save will help.. I figured we'd only bring maybe 6, but didnt realize I could put them in carryon.. so that's what I'll do..

Thanks everyone..

never had a problem with any beverages in checked luggage.

You can buy pop at the Hess gas stations for a reasonable price. There are stations located by Boardwalk and Down Town Disney.

I have never done this, but remembering reading an old thread where someone recommended getting one of the rolling soft-sided coolers. They used it as a carry-on...it was filled with soda on the way there, and souvenirs on the way home!

A soft side cooler as a carry may be your solution. I have a 12 by 12 soft side cooler and have taken pop before. But I choose to take the plastic bottles instead. I usually take no more than six with me. I have had no problems doing this at all. I chill them the night before, put them in the cooler, and a cold pack with snacks for the plane.

Another suggestion, check out having your groceries delivered to the room. If you check some other posts you can probably find out which would be the best company to choose.

BEVERAGES are dangerous. I have seen luggage come off the baggage claim dripping, I have been dripped on from "beverages" in the overhead. Word of warning.... If you have to pay to have your clothes cleaned and/or pay to use the laudry facilities there go your "savings" and then some!

I think Nala was referring to what you said about getting the refillable mugs... why not just refill your mug late in the evening?

Hi,

I never would put canned soda in my suitcase. That could be a disaster. However, I have flown a 6 pack of coke plastic bottles (double ziploced) with no problem.

We always rent a car too, so we get a few munchies at the Winn Dixie by dtd disney.

herc.

Soda cans break easily particularly in soft sided luggage in the overhead bins during the frantic stowing process. Slight bending at the top rim can cause the pull tab to crack open slightly.

Some years ago comments were made about the rapidity at which car fenders and doors rusted out and later someone mentioned that the sheet metal was sometimes no more than three times the thickness of a beverage can.

The Hess station sells coke products, something like $5-$6 for 24 cans. Fl doesn't charge deposits so it may even be cheaper than buying them home.

stow soft side coolers under the seat infront of you on the plane. how much simpler can it be. get real.
