Flu Shots

Shot or no shot right before trip ....

  • I would give them the flu shot now.

  • I would wait until after the trip.

  • I don't believe in flu shots at all.

Yep. We got them and everything went well. Nice and quick. So far the kids seem fine and I am hoping that continues..
Thanks again.....

DD IS sick today....hmmmmmm....
Not saying I wouldn't do it again but I just wonder if it's from the shot or not. It seems like it is.

I always wonder too if they don't get sick from the doctors office!! DD has had a low grade fever all day. Hopefully she's better tomorrow poor thing. DS2 is fine.

My kids have their yearly doctors appointment tomorrow and I am trying to decide whether or not to pass on the flu shots until after we return from our trip. I am a HUGE worrywart and can't help but be afraid they will get sick from it even though all evidence points toward this being a myth. Our trip is in a couple of weeks. I would just like your thoughts and experiences to ease my mind.

I personally would never let my kids get a flu shot. Ever.

I'm not a fan of the flu shot. I rarely get sick but the one year I had a flu shot I got sick over and over for a good six month. It was awful. I won't ever get that shot again.

It's so hard to know what is a myth, a coincidence, you know was it or wasn't it the flu shot. DD has a terrible cough with a fever still today, which the doctor's office said is what's going around right now so that being said I think she caught a bug at the office. I don't know if I would do that again before a trip. Taking my chances at school is bad enough. Yes DD will be better by the trip but now I am flipping out that it is going to spread around the whole house just in time for the trip!
Thanks for listening.

I'm really sorry and hope she is better soon..Ironic that she has symptoms of the flu...

I'm sorry she's sick, but there's little correlation between the vaccine and immediate illness as the previous posters have said. Sounds like bad luck (stress letting her immune system fail her?).

Personally I don't believe in the vaccine (particularly for healthy children and adults), there's little or no evidence to suggest that they have any effect.

I know... I know....
I always am afraid though that there will be a flu epidemic like always and that I will panic when the flu shots are all gone (like what has happened in the past). I just never know what is best and I guess I trust what our doctor recommends.
I do appreciate everyone's opinions whether we agree or not. I like to hear all the sides of these issues.

Therein lies the problem...There is no need to panic if there is a flu outbreak..She would be sick for a few days to a week, have a fever, aches and pains, and a cough. Like she has..:headache:
Complications in healthy people are rare.

My DD and I were talking about this last night. A couple of years ago there was a big to do about Bird flu and everyone better rush out and get the flu shot..even though it wasn't for bird flu it may help..:rolleyes1

Then there was a shortage. More panic. How utterly ridiculous. What ever happened to the bird flu by the way? seems to have disappeared like SARS..

Your child probably did pick up an infection in the the office which is why we don't go unless absolutely necessary!

Even if there were a flu epidemic, a normal healthy child or adult should be able to cope with it just fine. Most people have a very good defence against these things and those who do get it just need to be monitored, kept warm and well-hydrated.

Anyway giving it to your kids won't hurt them, it just won't benefit them either ;) (assuming they are healthy children)

I guess another reason I do it too is we live with my parents and think it helps protect them from the flu too.:confused3
