Flu Shot

I'm so mad at myself. I just had my annual physical this week and I forgot to ask for the flu shot! I'll make sure I go to a drug store and get one soon.

To answer the question - Some years, I do have the sore arm afterwards for a day or two. Some years, it's a big nothing burger.

The shots are all the same size needle. The issue is the person giving you the shot. If they are good you won't feel it or bruise . If not we'll sore arm. Always alittle puffy after a vaccine but bruising and such is the person who gave it.

All 7 of my family got it about 2 weeks ago.......sore arm for the adults for a day or so.....very mild.
Kids never mentioned it again,

If you get the senior version we were told it might be more painful this year. they added something to it that is also in the shingles vaccine.......and that one did hurt!!
But we had no problem
There are three versions of the high dose shot so you may or may not get the additional ingredient.

1. Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent
2. FLUAD High-Dose Quadrivalent Adjuvanted
3. Flublok Quadrivalent

Only number two contains an additional ingredient meant to improve immune response.

I bribed my college age son with Sushi to get his shot at Wegmans yesterday (got Fluzone) and last night he said his arm was a teensy bit sore, said he wouldn't have even noticed if I didn't ask.

DH got his earlier this morning than me and has a smidge of an ache from the Sanofi Flu Block while I am ok with it, so far. Seems this year is an ok year:)

DD is next one up this weekend & then we're done.

My whole family got the Sanofi Flu Blok last year and this year. Turns out it was new then, I had no idea until just now but apparently we were all ok because nothing popped up to ask so that's good.

One more year & one less thing to worry about.

Not sure which one we got, but it had it. The pharmacist was sure to tell us.
He said he should stop telling seniors.....when they hear shingles pain, they don't want it

Just went to look at the paperwork and we got number 2

I got my flu shot the other day at Walmart. I usually get mine at my doctor’s office, but my appointment isn’t until late November.

I was just browsing the housewares section at Walmart when a young woman employee approached me and asked if I wanted the shot. Sure, why not?

They had an extra pharmacist giving the shots in a makeshift booth in the women’s clothing section. And I got some freebies as a reward: a tiny powerbar sample, a small envelope of an electrolyte powder to mix in a water bottle, and a pill organizer.

Afterwards I went back to housewares and the employee was still cruising there too trying to snag some more unwary victims.

My arm was slightly sore for a day but not enough to take an analgesic.

Just got mine today. Got the Flublok according to the paperwork. Arm isn’t sore at all. Hoping it stays that way.

just got mine and I mentioned to the nurse that I felt it when she was injecting it. It was strange, I felt the liquid going in my arm. Usually its a quick jab, but she took a while to inject it. It reminded me of when I got the tetanus shot, I could feel it going in.

Weird. When I went to my drugstore to get the flu shot.......I filled out the necessary papers but had no idea I had a choice in flu shots?? :confused3

We were given the senior one. We didn't really get a choice.
We got senior last year too......just one this year had that added ingredient.

That must be what I got as I'm 67. Maybe I'll call tomorrow to make sure.....not that it really matters but thank you for your reply. :)

You don’t generally have a choice except between regular and high dose and then only if you are 65 and up.

If you want a specific manufacturer, you would need to call around to find out what the pharmacy was giving.

Years ago there were tri and quad versions. Sometimes you had to pay more for the quad version.

I was at the grocery store and there was quite the line for the shots, I think a lot of people have October on their calendars.

Glad my arm is good, I do think it's in the skill of whoever gives the shot so I'm extra sweet to the nice person holding the needle.

That could be a factor, but it's not the only factor. You can look this up at various sources on your own, but in layman's terms: when you get the vaccine your body recognizes the invader and sends several things to the site to (1) investigate it and (2) start to an initial fight against it (which it will refine as it learns more). This immune response can cause inflammation, and thus arm soreness. Also, this article points out that the arm muscle could be sore just simply from the small trauma of having the needle separate muscle fibers on a very small scale.

This article is specifically about the COVID vaccine, but the concept is similar for many vaccines.
