Flower Power Concerts

Good Morning from cotton country!

I have enjoyed reading all of the posts! Thanks, flyinglizard, for all the info about times, and when to arrive. I think we will see the Eric Burden and the Animals, Paul Revere, and Arlo Guthrie. I just wish we would have been there to see the Grass Roots. I listen to an oldies station sometimes, and it really gets me excited about the concerts! Some songs my kids just can't take, but sometimes they'll say, "Oh Mom, that's cool". Now I'm just counting the days....21 to be exact from today! As soon as my kids take exams, we're gone! Gotta go now. My daughter is getting inducted into the Honor Society and the program starts early. Gotta finish my second cup.

Are all the Flower Power Concert times: 5:45, 7:00, 8:15.
Just one more thing. Gary Puckett (my favorite) has been there the last several years around Memorial weekend, seen him in 2001. Plan this year's trip around the same time, and now he was there in April....very disappointing. My 20 year old and I love to sing his songs. She's was also going this year.

Hey Stitch Inside!

Thanks for your regards to my daughter. About Fort Wilderness, I went there with my parents the first year it opened. I thought it was 1972, but could have been 1971. I remember it WAS called Fort Wilderness back then. We stopped and took a picture at the front gate sign. We camped in my parents pop-up and I had such a good time! I was 13 that year and I have never forgotten my first trip to WDW. I remember that you had to have a ticket for each ride, and my dad bought the regular book of tickets, not the deluxe. There were some rides we didn't do because we either ran out of tickets, or didn't have one for that ride. Thank goodness it is pay one price nowadays!! I am taking my crew to the cabins in FW. My son doesn't like the rides very much, but my daughter loves them. I hope she finds somebody in line to sit with. I told her last summer after she talked me into the Rock and Roller coaster, that was my swan song for getting on those rides!!

I saw BJ Thomas on Saturday night, the 8:15 show. We got seats with no problems about 5 or 10 minutes ahead. The show lasted about 30 min.

Sweet Maxine- You were right about '72. I changed my signature accordingly. I always knew we were there the first summer WDW was open. And knowing it opened in '71, I just assumed we were there that summer. But since the park didn't open until October '71 as I now know thanks to the DIS, we had to have been there Summer of '72.:smooth:

I'm heading down for Memorial Day weekend primarily to see The Rascals. In July I'm hosting a Rascal's concert here in town (that's part of my job) and I won't have a chance to enjoy the show then!

I'm a little disappointed that I won't see Gary Puckett this time, but I will see Arlo Guthrie!

We'll be there for the Buckinghams and Lovin Spoonful. In the past we saw Gary Puckett in 01 and 03 and saw Arlo Guthrie in 01. Very neat little concert series, can't wait to see it again.

We've always gone to the Flower Show over Memorial weekend and I never realized there were concerts! We're going to see Gary Puckett on Saturday!

Would it be accurate to say that Epcot does a better job with their Oldies concerts than Disney's California Adventure?

Those of us who read websites like Mouse Planet and Mice Age a few years back will pick up on what I mean.

Sincerely,

You guys are driving me nuts! I can read at work, but I can't post. I'm really getting psyched for next week!

Gary Puckett- Anyone lucky enough to see Gary for the first time should know that if you buy one of his cd's from the carts outside the theater, he'll sign and personalize it for you and even pose for a pic, so don't forget the camera. The lines go very quick. The cd "Gary Puckett- LIVE!" is excellent but too short! Super showman and his voice has improved with age! You know he has his own website, right?

Eric Burden & the Animals- I have the 1998 concert dvd. None of the original band. The years have not treated him well and his voice is a little raspy (being kind) but I think you will all be pleased with his show. I'd plan to see all three sets- he has a lot of material to go through. If you remember the young Eric, forget that! But I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Stitch Inside- You had me all excited... I thought I found someone from the soft opening of Fort Wilderness!

BethC1952- You are hosting a Rascals concert? And you get paid for that too? geeze... Can I be your "gopher"?

I'll file my same day report next week for Orleans and Grass Roots. Maybe someone will fill me in on what I have to miss this year.

Then we can start talking about the Fall concerts...

Hey everyone!

It's getting closer!! 21 days and counting!!:bounce:

I am getting so excited about this trip. It will be our first time to go to the concerts. I sing "City of New Orleans" to my grandson (when I can remember all the words). It's such a good song about the South, and the imagery from the words just really gets me. I just wish I could be there for the Grass Roots. I used to really love "Temptation Eyes". I hope everyone comes back and gives the details on their experiences. I love to read the posts.

CaseyJr- Yeah, AG had two hits and that's them.

I was never much into Arlo but I understand he has a very large fan base and his performances at Flower Power are very well attended. One of the most popular acts!

sweet maxine- Yeah, Temptation Eyes is my favorite too! Enjoy the concerts first timer. I'm sure it won't be your last.

I'll keep you posted about next week if you'll fill me in when you are there.

Just remember, the performers LOVE to see and hear people singing along!

We were there last week and saw Paul Revere and I really did not care of the show. We had been there when he was there in past years and those shows was great. We had just run up for the day and I was glad we were to get to see him as we had enjoyed him in the past but this year it seemed he wanted to be a comic more than singing. He really was not that funny. I personnally was there to hear him sing and tell jokes.

I know I will probably be bashed for this, but this is my humble opionion.

The only thing I will say is that Paul revere isn't supposed to be there until May 22 and plays until the 25th.

I saw Davy Jones on Sun the 18th, and was impressed with his graciousness to fans for photos, and his humor. "I used to be a heart throb, now I'm a coronary!"

For AP holders, you need to get a wrist band for reserved seating at Guest Relations. They were very strict about Passholders needing the wristband, and not honoring the AP itself. Luckily my poor DH hustled to the International Gateway with the passes, and was able to get 3 wristbands for us.

Don would much rather be at Epcot for Eric Burden or the Grass Roots, or the Buckinghams (if they're playing), but he put up with Davy Jones.

I've seen Flo and Eddie (Turtles), Paul Revere and the Raiders at our local Woodstock Fair, and they really do emphasize comedy in their acts. Gary Puckett also played the Fair and was wonderful. Hope all of you enjoy your concerts!

dgaston, I have a question about the reserved seating. DVC members are supposed to show blue Member Card along with WDW resort card to receive preferred seating. Do you know anything about that? That is, do we go to Guest relations to get a wristband?

Bobbi:D

Bobbiwoz: I would certainly check with Guest Relations--it was the first weekend, but my they were being strict about not allowing anyone in without a wristband. It's just easier to stop on your way into the park.

I am an AP holder and never had a problem with just walking up and getting a seat for these concerts.

We are going to see the Grass Roots this year. I remember they had a hit song, "Midnight Confessions." Did they have any others? A couple years ago we saw Arlo Guthrie and he was great! He was witty and really engaged the audience...my teen son had been reluctant to go but enjoyed it as much as I did. I saw the Turtles recently locally here in WPB and they were good. It really brings back my teen years to see these people.....one of the Turtles' songs was "Let Me Be", sort of an ode to a teen's rebellious nature. I had totaly forgotten it, but when I heard it again, I remembered how back when I was fifteen, I thought it had been written just for me!
