package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water (114-120 degrees)
1/8 teaspoon ginger
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 13-oz. can evaporated milk
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
4 to 4-1/2 cups unsifted flour
Butter, melted

Season a 6" clay flower pot before first use by greasing well and baking
30 minutes at 350°. Cool and repeat seasoning procedure. Set pot aside
to cool while preparing dough. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in
warm water. Blend in ginger and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let stand in
a warm place until bubbly, about 15 minutes. Stir in the remaining 2
tablespoons sugar, salt, evaporated milk and oil. Mix at low speed. Add
flour, 1 cup at a time; beat well after each addition. The dough should
be stiff, but too sticky to knead. Place dough in lightly oiled pot. Let
rise in warm place until dough is 1-1/2 inches over top of pot, about
60 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake 60 minutes. For smaller loaves
use two 4-inch pots and bake 40-45 minutes. Crust will be very brown.
Brush top with melted butter. Let cool 5-10 minutes and loosen crust
around edge. Store in flower pot for freshness. Makes 1 loaf

I had a friend who used to do these, but I've never done them myself. (Too cheap to buy the pots I guess.) She used to make them in really small pots, so that you'd have individual serving sizes. Great with chowders, soups, stews or chili!

You're motivating me here. ;)

Pumba, thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been looking for a recipe for flower pot bread. There used to be a restaurant in Atlanta that served all of their sandwiches in flower pot bread and they were scrumcious!

I have been baking all of our bread since the being of Feb. Now, I have a new challege this week! Thanks, again.....
