So I am leaving this Sunday for our Disney World vacation and I re-checked the weather report and it looks like there are isolated/scattered thunderstorms everyday next week! I know Florida storms are usually quick, an hour or two and they're done? I was banking on it raining only a couple days and just bought some disposable ponchos. My question is should I go get some more or bring a real rain jacket? Hadn't really planned for this and still keeping my fingers crossed its sunny most of the time! (being from upstate ny where it is still snowing I could use some sun).

I would just bring the disposable ponchos. You don't want to be lugging serious raincoats around. Just bring some gallon-size Ziploc bags to stuff the ponchos in, in between rain and water rides. (Dry them off as much as possible first :)

Scattered thundershowers means just that, and the chances of them hitting Disney are just that - a chance. I think the worst forecast is 40% for the week, and if they hit, they'll be short. Besides, cloudy and showers is much better than 90 and humid IMHO -- and it may dissuade a few locals from dropping in!

Not to mention those brief storms can clear a park out! We were there last June and one of the storms hit. We just put on our ponchos and wandered from store to store. It was pouring out. By the time it stopped, a ton of people had left and I was able to get a picture of DS in front of the castle at 2 pm with no one else around. People started to come back in towards the evening, but it wasn't really crowded.

Not to rain on your parade so to speak, but we've been dry here in Central Florida for about 3 weeks now. All the forecasters are doing the happy dance that some rain is coming. It may just rain the whole week.... but not all the time. I'd just do like the rest of us do and throw the poncho in a gallon sized bag into your backpack and you are good to go! Once it's over, the parks will be clear and you'll be glad you stayed!

I've been doing the same thing you are-watching the weather! Our arrival date is the same as yours. :goodvibes While I'm hoping it doesn't rain ALL the days, I'll be ok with it if it does. It might mess with our pool and water park plans, but there's ALWAYS something to do at WDW!

OUr last trip to the World it was suppose to rain pretty much every day. Concerned about this I asked the guy checking people in Magical Express line about the weather and he said you can never believe what they say about Orlando weather. It ended up raining 1 of the days we were down there out of the 5 days they were forecasting.

Our arrival day is this Sunday, too. Not too worried about the rain...just hope it isn't too muggy! It would be nice if it cleared out the parks some though!

Even if they are right and it does rain, ponchos are all that you'll need.

I'd just plan on it raining every day ... best to plan for the "worst" case scenario (depending upon your point of view - I understand it is dry in Orlando right now).

Most likely, it will be hit or miss most days. Sun? Who knows.

Sounds like a couple of gallon bags will be added to our packing list. If some rain can clear out the parks a little bit this time of year then bring it on!:goodvibes

I'm pretty sure there was a chance of rain everyday for our trip in July and it really only rained once for about 30 minutes. It was actually kind of funny because it was a sudden downpour in DHS and everyone ran for cover or for the exit. It does get less crowded after it clears up. I would just take a few ponchos and wouldn't worry too much about. Use the time to get in a show or walk through the shops.

Every day, every July. ;)

We got caught in a major downpour at AK last July. It was as we were leaving the park and right after riding Kali so we we already soaked. My FIL had already left the park with my daughter and my wife's Grandma to go back to Pop and it never rained at the resort. So the scattered storms are really scattered.

It poured the first day of our trip last March. We sat in the room pouting for a couple of hours, and then we finally decided to just throw on ponchos and brave the monsoon. SOOOO worth it!!! We rode Peter Pan 3 times in a row with no wait, walked right in to see Mickey in Toontown...no one was there!!! If it's raining and you can put up with it, go to the parks! It really does thin the crowds a LOT!

Have a wonderful trip, rain or shine! :yay:

I have the same concern as you, OP. My sister and I leave tomorrow afternoon for a week-long trip, and I checked out the weather forecast yesterday and again today. Now I understand that "scattered thunderstorms" means "scattered," and that you may get one or you may not, but it still doesn't make me happy to see chance of thunderstorms everyday. It's not a big deal if it rains a little bit on a couple of days, but I at least want some sun! Especially since I know there's been no rain the past couple weeks. I'll be very upset if it's been sunny and dry for a few weeks, and then decides to rain the week I'm there.

I wouldn't worry. The only time it ever rained all day every day in Florida was May 2009 (I know some of you were there and remember the misery). It was kind of a nightmare, but it was also TOTALLY unusual.

I think you'll be just fine and you'll have a blast no matter the weather.

I buy the two pack of ponchos at the dollar store....one poncho for each family member per day....and toss them at the end of the day. That way you aren't dealing with a wet poncho.
